Hi. I had my hairdresser shave my head in Dec of 2014 a few weeks after my chemo because I was loosing hair on my pillow. It took a few months for hair to kind of get a little bit. I wore kerchiefs and knit hats all the time. I also bought a wig for when I went shopping or whatever. My head with nothing on was cold!! I would say it was a year before my hair was like before I had it shaved. The good thing is that now my hair is much better. It is thicker and kind of curly. It was thin and straight before. So good things do come out of something not so good. I had all my chemo at UMASS Ambulatory where the parking garage is, they were so kind and caring, it made such a difference in my care. Any other questions just ask, glad I can help.

Thank you Peggy , I hope I get straight hair now so that way I don't pay money to straight it like before .. Ha ha ha what about color can you

Yes. Once mine got to a good length, I had it colored. It didn't come in with a lot of grey just the sides by my ears. Not bad for 75.

I was almost white I went gray very young

Wow that is some feat. I still use non amonia semi permanent colour as my hair was a little fragile and thin and didnt want to make it worse. It works for me

My hair started growing within days of finishing chemo very soft and Downy, felt like a baby's head, within 2 months I had a lovely head of curly hair my usual hair was dead straight, the curly hair lasted 2 years and I am now back to my straight hair, kind of wished it would have stayed curly.

Omg really 2 months not bad at all I thought it would take longer . I had long curly hair and I was so sad when I cut it of.

I would think that 2 months was very unusual. Maybe didn't have many chemos

Had 6 rounds carbo/taxol,however i'm not suggesting that everybody's hair will grow back that quickly will grow back that quickly.

My hair was long enough after two months to look as though I might have chosen to have it cut so short. A sort of Judi Dench look.

I had a similar experience with my hair coming in curly whereas before I had horrible mousy straight. I liked the color better too, almost black to brown before. I kept in very short and it was no maintenance. I LOVED IT, only good thin to come out of OC. I got so many compliments on it! I ended chemo in December 2013 and by May 2014 I had very short hair, I did have to have a trim in April as the sideburns were all crazy but was still wearing a wig to work. I ditched it by June and went natural. Alas, the hair went back to my original color and totally straight by a bit over a year later and I am still figuring out what to do with it. I don't want to go long anymore; cancer has taught me that life is too short and I don't want to devote all the time I was BC to making my hair look presentable but without the wave and curl it's not looking that great short either. Guess that should be my biggest worry.

Hi keeponkeepingon

My natural hair is curly , my hair was long and a lot of it it was sad to see it gone but I hope my new hair to be straight . Used to pay a lot of money to make it straight ha ha ha

My natural hair is long and straight, my chemo hair was curly i loved it,the curls stayed for about 2years,my two daughters have natural curly hair and they both hate it,they spend ages every day straighting their hair! Oh dear it seems we are never happy with what nature gave us.I hope you get what you want. Paula x

My hair started to grow back about 2 months before I finished chemo, Carbo/Taxol and within 2 months of finishing chemo I no longer needed to wear hats or scarfs. First time round it took about 6 months for it to grow. Kittie.

Hi Shqiperia

I'm just a couple of months ahead of you. It falls out one last time 2-3 weeks after your last chemotherapy treatment, then within a few weeks you'll see tiny hairs appearing. I've now got a head of swirly silver and black hair and love it. My hair was always blonde and completely straight before. I should really change my profile photo.

Bet you're looking forward to having hair again - though I found the first ones that really showed were ..... chin hair!!!!! ahhhhhh

xxx love Annie

Mine started to grow straight away. It grew back white at first and then some grey grew in too. I could feel stubble over my head before I could see anything.

My hair was grey & almost straight before i lost half of it during chemo. I was hoping it would come back dark & curly. No such luck! I think it is a bit thicker now, but it came back white & straight. The hairdresser jokes with me now about my disappointment.

Hi, I suppose it really depends on what type of hair you had before treatment. Did you have good growth eg. My last chemo was the week before Christmas Dec 13. My hair started to come through Jan 14, white and fluffy initially, warning, this happens everywhere. I remember looking at my face and thinking it resembled a peach lol. The hair on my head continued to grow and get darker and definitely by February I had a full head of hair albeit very short . as it hot a bit more length I started to get curls lol. Never had curls before. I got a haircut in April as the hairdresser felt it would help to take the ends of it.

Good luck. Ann x

Hi, my last chemo treatment was in November. I had brown curly hair before and I now have white hair with a little bit of brown here and there. It's been almost 3 months and my hair is about 1/2" long. I can't tell if it's curly or not yet, but I hope it's straight instead of curly cause I spent so much time straightening it before. I can't wait for my hair to get longer cause my head is so cold.

I am so happy for you to have your last chemo treatment! It has been nine months since my last treatment and it has just been the last couple of weeks that I have been comfortable without my wig. Hair was curly before and curly now - Although my hair seems quite a bit thicker. And horror of horror—I saw a hair on my chin yesterday. One good thing is I barely have an underarm hair.
