I am fairly new to forum although I have posted quite a bit. Could any of you ladies advise me on juicing and complimentary treatments. Just taking redoxon an immune support supplement at moment as wanting to strengthen myself as facing lst recurrence after only finishing treatment in nov.

Hi Taichipat, I actually juice once a day, green apples, ginger, celery, carrots, kiwi or cucumber and some watercress spinach and rocket you can get in a packet. I wonder has it helped. I have been doing this since 2010 and although I have recurrences, the treatment works and I get about twelve months in between treatments. You could also add Kale should the idea suit you. I have a Philips Juicer nothing too expensive, available in argos but it has kept going for the past five years. You get a recipe book with it. I also use milled flaxseed in yogurt on sprinkled in soup or even on an egg. I did get an immune support a seven seas one. I had bad sinuses and thought it might help.
Green tea and sprinkling tumeric on fish before you cook it or meat is also supposed to be good. The idea of green apples is that greens make your body more alkaline. Having said all this, I am not a doctor and really its just what I do. Personally for me it could help delay recurrence but if I said that to my onc, I would get a blank look. I have just replied to Taichipat as well. I was worried when you mentioned having yoghurt as I feel it gave me ovarian cancer. Professor Jane Plant also believes eating dairy products gave her breast cancer. She cut them all out except for eggs and the cancer went. You can buy coconut, oat, and nut milks from most supermarkets now. Apples are very heavily sprayed with pesticides as are most green veg so buy organic if you can.
HI. just reading through the posts on health foods & supplements and was interested in your post. My Onc & the team (including the dietician) advised that normal diet - but in the case of dairy products : don't eat food with raw egg i.e. homemade mayonaise; blue or cream cheese & also avoid unpasturised dairy foods. So really, I had my usual diet.
I am probably one the few on the site who doesn't juice, except if I have a lot of fruit left over at weekends & then a quick blitz. I suppose I am lucky that I live near lots of shops/markets, so can get fresh veg as i need it.

The Royal Marsden have brought out a really good cook book for cancer prevention and living with cancer. Full of good sense ideas and commentary on diet and supplements. It's worth a read.
I juice because it's a great way to start the day. My favourite breakfast juice contains kale to make it a splendid green colour, apples for sweetness, and other flavours thrown in according to what I find in the fridge.
I went to a Penny Brohn course which included a session on nutrition and asked if juicing was a good idea. The Nutritionalist said veggie juices are a really good start to the day because how else would you take in a pile of nutritious vegges at 8 in the morning.
On supplements, I consulted a homeopath who's director of the London School of Integrated Medicine. She recommends Iscador which is the fancy name for mistletoe. I take 12 drops in the morning and 8 in the evening on weekdays - when I remember. It's accredited with delaying relapse and is available on the NHS. There are many different ideas on what is good. I take the view if I feel better for taking it and it doesn't do any harm then that's fine but it's essential to be realistic about what they can achieve.

Bought the Cookbook. It just seemed to be a healthy cookbook to me. Nothing particularily special. Nothing proven. But 50% proceeds go to Royal Marsden so that's a plus.
I juice most days but I was worried about juicing cruciferous foods and drinking them raw as I thought that it was a bad idea for the thyroid. ?!?
I too have been a little worried about the thyroid issues. I have done a bit of research and it looks like it is ok for most people unless you have a thyroid problem already. I think the answer is to rotate what you put in your juice eg not kale, watercress and broccoli everyday but use romaine lettuce or even spinach which is not as high in goitrogens as kale etc.
Hi Annie, interested to read about Iscador.having read up on it, there seems to be a few negatives along with the positives!!. Did you discuss taking it with your oncolologists? Do you know where one could purchase thus in the U K?

I agree with everyone else about the juicing and supplements including curcumin (turmeric). I would recommend that you always buy certain greens organic if possible as there are a lot of pesticides in some eg kale, spinach, apples, strawberries and carrots. Also I would strongly urge you to cut all dairy out of your diet except for free range eggs. Dairy has growth factors in it that encourage the fast growth of calves but humans should not be having this as adults. You can get all the calcium you need from leafy greens. Cow's and goats milk does not have the correct mineral levels of calcium and magnesium that our bodies need so that the calcium in it cannot be used properly and is just stored incorrectly. I am convinced that I got ovarian cancer because of my high intake of milk and yoghurt. If you do this, you need to check all products you buy to make sure they do not contain milk. I have not had a recurrence in well over 2 years. I did not accept any treatment after the operation as I had a low grade 3C cancer which I found out did not respond well to chemo anyway as the cells are not fast growing enough. A good website for you to look at is canceractive.com. Also, find and read books by Jane Plant - go on Amazon and find her most up to date books. Please cut sugar out of your diet. You can still eat yummy things without adding sugar - there are loads of recipes on the internet using eg sweet potato, beetroot, dates, bananas, to make sweet treats. Use a bit of stevia if you need it to sweeten things, not honey or maple syrup or agave.

I believe my ovarian cancer was facilitated by the introduction of dairy in the diet after a long time of not having it. I understood later that the dairy cause the mucus in the body to become thick that prevent the immune cells to function thus tumors, viruses can reign in peace. I also cut the dairy out and did not have a recurrence yet in 4 years. Good to hear a similar experience.
And yes calcium is better assimilated into the bones from the greens that have silica than any milk.
Very interesting comments, I actually dont use yogurt myself just suggested it, my onc thinks prebiotics could help but thinks that tumeric or curcumin would want to be ingested in large amounts and I could turn yellow, I am sure he was joking. As I said I am not a professional I am just making suggestions and saying what I do. I tried wheat grass once but my poor tummy couldnt cope with it so never again. I also have to confess that I do like the odd sweet things. I suppose we all try our best to do something healthy every day. The idea of green apples is that they are less sweet than red ones and have less sugar. But mainly it is up to our medical history at the end of the day. Maybe if you are also a diabetic, everything should be taken with advice. I know some ladies dont agree with milled flaxssed as it contains hormones but by gynae nurse suggested that I try that as I was constipated and it does contain omegas. So in reality there is lots of reading out there and whatever suits and doesnt make us sick is a personal thing
Thank you very much to all of you who have replied and I will take on board a lot of what has been said. I have got thyroid issues and am on thyroxine 50mcg. so I shall have to do some reading up I guess. All these things are worth a try. Got my mind strong, body well as good as it gets all things considering. I do as much exercise as I can manage. The inside I am now considering although I have always had a very good diet, making everything from scratch (love cakes though). I ask myself would life really be worth living without them. Seriously YES. Roll on Consultant on Monday...
Oh oh have been making yohurt for years. You could get really hung up on diet couldn't you? At the end of the day one does ones best and the rest is out of our hands.
Lots of great advice above but as regards the actual juicing I would recommend a Nutri Ninja or similar (Nutri bullet) - it juices the whole of the foods without the waste that other juicers - ie you get the whole food not just the juice.. I always start with half a juicer jar of leaves, be they spinach, kale or salad then whatever I fancy on top, then some water (bottled) or coconut water ... celery, apple, cucumber, pear, berries plus always pop in some chia seeds, flaxseeds, cranberries, soy and lecithin powder, an opened probiotic capsule, opened modified citrus pectin capsules (to help immune system and gut) and some super green powder (spirulina, wheat/barley grass etc) ... always really filling and thoroughly nutritious! Enjoy your juicing ... just mix it up a bit and don't get hung up on one type. Avacadoes and bananas are lovely juiced as well .. in some almond or soy milk.
Hi, I do juice most days and try to do it as organically as possible. The one benefit that no one seems to have mentioned is that constipation seems to be a thing of the past due to the high vegetable content of my diet, and I think especially the juicing.
Not sure about the constipation thing as chemo drugs cause this plus ov can also cause this if the bowel in involved.
