It's back, but on the run again......

Hi. I haven't posted in a while (tho I read everyone's posts, what a source of strength you all are) enjoying total remission (after 4th recurrence) but after a wonderful holiday in Madeira the bugger was back in late October. My wonderful onc put me on weekly taxol. And I feel fantastic, after 3 treatments, and it's working. Working full time, planning a fab Christmas with family and friends (poor them I'm cooking!) and heading at 53 into my 8th year surviving this disease (3C at diagnosis). I take life in bite size chunks, small steps, and smile wryly when friends gaily chat about what they are planning next year or in x years' time, I guess our world moves at a different pace. Anyway just to say a very Happy Christmas to everybody and hugs to you all, Merylxx

Morning Meryl,

Totally understand your comment about life taking a different pace, when it comes to friends talking things in x amount of years.....I don't tend to join the conversations but inside I'm thinking yep I will be there doing so and so.....but I'm not going to say out loud in case I jinx it!

Wishing you a merry Christmas, and a fantastic onwards battle ( if you know what I mean!)

Hi, wonderful to read , keep it running ! Yes we all can relate to people making long term plans and we can't. I have my husband with cancer also, and as soon as one of us gets clear the other one starts. But we take every opportunity to go out and socialise whilst well . Good luck with the weekly Taxol, If I have to come out if the trial I'm in I am going to ask my oncologist about weekly. Happy Christmas. Trix

Dear Meryl

What a lovely post. You sound so upbeat half-way through your treatment. I'm impressed you manage to work full-time too!

I think you have some good coping mechanisms going on there. Your comment about friends' plans really chimed with my own thoughts on that. I do my best to live in the moment and tomorrow will look after itself.

Enjoy a much-deserved Christmas with your family and wishing you an even healthier and very happy New Year for 2015!

much love xxx Annie

Sending all fellow warriors hugs all around, I agree with the sentiment, you cant plan in advance because it depends on bloods, scans etc and the consultant, cant forget him. But we live life as best we can, just finished work today for Xmas and I said to boss, I wasnt here last year, was on chemo, year before, had shoulder op and year before that radiotherapy. So I am really chuffed to have worked this Xmas. I am older and it took its toll but I achieved staying at work since June so am giving myself a pat on the back. A few weeks back colleagues were putting themselves down for summer hols in 2015. I was gobsmacked but then they dont have health issues. Next May I will retire, the year after my son is getting married so I hope to be there for him. Then again, tomorrow isnt promised to anyone whether they have an illness or not so we should embrace each day and live it as best we can

Really pleased the weekly taxol is working, how did they arrive at that dosage? I have read that smaller but oftener doses have a better outcome. Totally agree with your sentiments about planning future events, its tough but we have to make the most of each day.

Seasons hugs.

Hi Joanna, trials have shown that weekly taxol can be a useful treatment after multiple recurrences. I was amazed at the difference in just a week (lost 2kg of ascites, and the tumour pain!), and my CA125 is coming down. I have had carboplatin/taxol several times, each time giving total remission, and the advice is to give the platinum based drug a rest for future effectiveness (as it is likely eventually to prove resistant) if taxol proves effective on its own. Hope you've had a happy Christmas Day (I'm doing a sneaky post to you during Panto Strictly!!) love Merylxx

Great inspiration! Yes our lives do seem to be measured in short bursts and as for future planning - well tomorrow is about as far as I go! Except I am cautiously looking forward to Christmas. However I always try to see something good in today.

Enjoy Christmas

This thread of messages by everyone is so inspiring. Im writing on behalf of my mum, we do have to take each day as it comes and make sure we laugh about the littlw things in life. Mum has so much strength, I feed off of her. Some times we have down days, like yesturdays appointment, but we have to be thankful of the cherished days we will spend together. Love to you all.
