Anyone can answer this? When doing health check on travel insurance when they ask if you have been told it is terminal but your onc has put you on watch and wait as it is stable, ie not growing but not gone, is this classed as terminal? Thanks x

I think that you have raised a really good issue but I do not know the answer. As we survive longer and watch and wait is a part of our survival, I think that there are a lot of grey areas that just do not have a simple answer. I have always been told my cancer is not cured but incurable and so far the word terminal has never been mentioned within a clinical setting.

Sorry I am just rambling but hope that you are able to go ahead and get travel insurance.

I think if it was terminal they would have prepared you for that so if that has not been said I would hope not growing but not gone. I have said no in answer to that question when looking for insurance which we have just done. We went with insurepink who were very good.

Good luck

People usually seem to think if you're told you have 6 months or less that's classed a terminal. Unless there's some kind of timescale life is terminal.

Incurable = terminal, it's just a nicer way of saying it. If you have ever been told your cancer cannot be cured, it doesn't matter how many watch and waits you do, you are still terminal. I know it's something we don't want to hear but I've come to terms with it and 18 months in after one period of watch and wait am now on 2nd line chemo. Trying to travel is a minefield, the best policy is to tell them everything, cos otherwise you might miss something out that invalidates your policy which is the last thing you want. I've heard Insurewith and MIA are very good for terminal patients.

Hope you get fixed up with insurance somewhere and have a lovely holiday.

I went on the comparison sites (travel supermarket) is one, for terminal they stressed have you been given a terminal prognosis ie less than 6 months to live this. They are trying to manage our cancer like any other chronological disease and will do everything possible to treat us. I think you can opt for insurance cover to exclude the cancer to give a better price. if you are going to Europe as long as it is in the EU make sure yiou take your EHIC (E111) card as you get a recipricol arrangement with their healt service although varies in different countries might have to pay for meds a bit more than our prescription charges but you can check by country, good luck.

Unless you have been told you are terminal then I wouldn't have thought you are. Yes, you have a chronic condition and will continue to need treatment but you are not terminal until you are told they can no longer treat you and can only make you comfortable surely? That's certainly the approach my pension company take, they wouldn't pay out an enhanced pension unless I had been told I was terminal and only had 6 months to live!

Thanks for that. Have been told I can try taxol or hrt at a later date and raditherapy as soon as I get any pain from the bone but at the moment the cancer is stable shrunk a bit and not grown so will try for cover but if not will try for cover excluding cancer as I will never book more than 2 weeks in advance and between my 6 weeks watch and wait! I intend to travel to Europe every 6 weeks, why not?? Balearics are my favourite place so in Euro and got my card up to oct 2019!,!

Think a few sangrias are on ice for me.....watch this space. Carole xx
