Mom is not well...

Hi Everyone,

I got the shock of my life yesterday when my mom caled to tell me she had been to her GP - had a ultrasound - and it confirmed that she had a very large tumor. The GP referred my mom to a Gynie and she went in today. He said that from what he could see/feel it was a very large tumor, probably maligmant (he said it felt like it was) and that it was causing problems to surrounding areas. She is due to have a CT scan tomorrow and see a Specialist Gynie Oncologist on Friday. She has every single symptom of OC and is very worried. What makes matters worse is she has been my father full time carer for the last number of years and has not had any regular check-ups. I am so worried for her that it has developed unchecked and now she will find out she has a very advanced stage of OC. All I can do is wait till she has the results back. My father passed away earlier this year and I am in a different country to my Mom who is all alone. What can i do? I feel very desperatefor her.

Poor you, Bryan. It must be so worrying for you and your Mom. There are no regular tests for OC so it can't be screened like breast cancer or cervical. It probably wouldn't have made a difference if she missed other checks. If your Mom can get on the Internet, it would be a good support for her to enrol on here, it's a lovely helpful group of friends and carers on here. The stage and nature of the tumour can't be determined until her operation, they take samples and analyse the stage. It may even be benign, it's really difficult for anyone to know until the histology is analysed. It's all explained on the Ovacome website, there are a lot of fact sheets under the 'resources' heading. Good luck, it's great that you're supporting your Mom like this. Hope she has an answer soon and can get on with getting sorted out....there's a lot of us on here who are recovered, recovering and coping with diagnoses at different stages.

All the best,

Love Wendy xx

Hi Bryan, Sorry to hear your mums news and totally understand her fear and yours. As Wendy says get your mum to come on here she will get lots of support and that is so what she needs right now. You too. Take good care. JacJac

Hi Bryan .. Your Mom is in a frightening place at he moment, but there's still hope it's benign as Wendy as said, isn't there? In your position, I know I'd be upset too. Love T xx

Thinking of you and your mum.... I hope both you and your mum will get the support and information that you need there is a support helpline you can ring led by the ovarian cancer charity ovacome they might be able to give you some advice and answer some questions you might have ...if not now but later on.... tel 0845 371 0554 office hours only.

Best wishes love x G x

So sorry to hear about your Mom, Bryan. It must be a real worry for you, and of course her, especially as you're not in the same country. Hopefully, she will find lots of medical an emotional support quite quickly.

I'll be thinking of you both,

Love Solange
