Hi Belle,

Did you have an MRI scan immediately after finishing treatment or at your first 3 monthly check up? Or is this your first since surgery and chemo?

I finished treatment in June last year and had scans at 3 weeks post chemo and then 3 months later with some areas of concern (possible disease OR scar tissue and in particular a small amount of abdominal fluid on the 3 month scan) so another was scheduled in January to check on this. Anyway, when the scan came around i had a radiologist i'd not seen before and she paused part way through the scan and asked me to do some breath holding. I'd never been asked to do this before (even at the two scans on diagnosis and pre surgery) so i was a bit concerned. Then i got more worried when the radiologist seemed to avoid making eye contact with me after the scan! When i went for the results i was prepared for bad news but thankfully this was not the case!!! My oncologist said 'so the scan was clear and the fluid has gone' as if he was just making a casual remark about the weather!!! I had worried for nothing!

The point is i think we tend to over analyse every tiny thing that is said and done to us at these scans/appointments but i do wish the professionals would realise this sometimes!!! I didn't ask WHY i had been asked to do breath holding in my scan but it would have been nice to have been told not to worry about it!! I also have had scans of varying length from about 45 minutes to an hour and i think this probably depends more on who is doing the scan than anything else!

Please try not to worry (although i suspect its been on your mind since Wednesday?!) and i really really hope that by now you have had good news. :-)

Please let us know.

Lots of love
