Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has been troubled by itchy skin. Mainly on upper chest back of neck, behind ears and on inner thighs.

It started about a week before I commenced 2nd line Carboplatin/Taxol having been in remission for 6 months. Chemo seems to have exacerbated it and driving me crazy at night mainly when I get hot in bed so not sleeping very well. Seen G P a few times trying antihistamines creams etc which help a little. Blood test seems ok. Chemo Drs think its a contact dermatitis but I am not convinced. Thinking of you all at whatever stage you are at. Lol Sue x

Hello Sue,

When I had my 1st line chemo of carbo/taxol I got an itchy rash after my 5th treatment. My doctor said it looked like flea bites but I was not in any contact with fleas at all. I saw another doctor who said it was hives and gave me some tablets ( sorry I can't remember what they were called) but they helped sooth the rash and itching.

After my last treatment it happened again so back to the doctors who said it could be a reaction to the carbo. I took the tablets again which solved the problem.

I have recently finished 4th line carbo/gem chemo but didn't get the itching this time.

I don't know if this will help at all but that was my experience. It would be worth mentioning it at the hospital next time as well.

Good luck at getting this sorted out

Hugs Jackie xxx

Thanks Jackie, I would have thought you would have had it before the 5 th treatment if it was chemo . I see my onc before my next treatment so will be sure to mention it. Hope you are keeping well now you have been through a lot. Sue x

Hi Sue,

I had itching and a rash on my scalp.I was prescribed anti allergy tablets by my GP which helped enormously.

I have itchy skin too! As I have developed steroid induced diabetes I have put it down to that. I had impaired glucose tolerance before I was diagnosed and the GP gave me E45 on prescription to help deal with the mild eczema that developed then I now slather it on all the time. I also get fungal rashes if I am not careful with my diet and use over the counter clotrimazole ointment (generic is much cheaper than Canestan) on those with steroid creams from the GP if it gets very inflamed! The nuisance was and still is having no-one to scratch my back! I have a back scratcher but have not yet worked out how to get the ointment onto my back! I am currently experimenting with a thin facecloth or muslin nappy wrapped round my back brush!

Let me know if you find something really effective!

Brilliant idea I often have trouble reaching the nodules on my back to treat them

Thanks Margaret. Will let you know if I find something really good. The difficult thing is trying not too scratch so I really feel for you with your back. Perhaps once you have experimented you will become a famous inventor. Good luck Sue x

I just purchased my mum 2 long handled foam applicators which she uses to apply cream to her legs......maybe these would help for reaching those awkward places? Or.......a foam washing up gadget.
