Hrt or not.

Hi there everyone.

Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice.

I had a granulosa cell tumour and have recently had the mirena coil fitted. My doctor gave me a prescription for estrogen patches and then rang me to say not to take them as she had thought the tumour I had was a cyst. She said she would speak to the consultant first. Now I'm a bit concerned as I have all ready had the coil fitted. Does anyone else take any hormones after having a juvenille granulosa cell tumour.

Many thanks

Rhian

Hi there, it's not clear from your post if you had a hysterectomy or not? I'm presuming not as I thought the mirena coil was used for contraception but then I don't undertand why you would need HRT? Also what age are you?

I do use an estrogen patch as I had a hysterectomy and removal of ovaries aged 32 but I had a different tumor type and my tumors have been tested as not receptive to estrogen or progestrone.

The words tumor and cyst seem to be pretty interchangable by the way.

Hi Heffmeister

I didn't have a hysterectomy because at the time I still wanted children. I had the mirena coil fitted for very heavy periods 7 weeks ago and also because I have a fibroid.

I'm having really bad nights sweats about two weeks before my period is due, they are so bad that I have to keep getting up in the early hours of the morning and it's making me really tired and miserable.

After I had my tumour removed my Gps were reluctant to put me on the pill because of the estrogen but the specialist at the hospital said it was fine, so I thought it would be the same for Hrt. I know it's for the best that my doctor checks because night sweats are nothing compared to the tumour coming back, it,s just at the moment I am so tired and snappy.

I do appreciate your comment.

Thanks very much.

Hi! It's a difficult decision! I had implants for the first 2 years after my hysterectomy but then decided not to. If you look in the search box at the top of the page for HRT, hot flushes, magnets, diet, the old threads on here may give you some more info. Good luck

Hi Rhian

I was told definitely no to HRT as granulosa cell tumours are oestrogen fuelled.

That is why I am suffering so badly with hot flushes.

Hi Anne.

I rang the hospital and they have made an appointment for next week. Maybe it's just oestrogen we are not allowed. The Mirena coil just has progestorone in. I hope it's ok as the heavy periods were a nightmare.

Thanks Anne
