Received my very first Chemotherapy today, and get my shots for white blood cells protection tomorrow day after. I was wondering in my care package for my diet why it is necessary to drink 2 to 3 gallons of liquid every day. I will ask tomorrow when I get my shot but wanted opinions here. Great results for my Serous cancer, no pain , nothing negative today! yeah! Totally great staff at St. Joseph Hospital! Yeah! Starting a walking club so people older do not isolate also . Taking care of our community! Yes!! Just needed information why amount of liquids need to be so much and how that would affect my heart (it has a stent in it. _)

Welcome aboard the chemo train . I'm on a similar train for the third time so I'm used to the drill by now.
I certainly hope you have not been drinking two to three Gallons of water a day or you will drown and wash all the minerals out of your body. The advice is two to three Litres a day. There are almost 14 Litres in 3 UK Gallons and it would be downright dangerous to drink that much a day.
If this is what is in your written instructions point it out to your medical team . On the other hand when you are facing this for the first time it is very easy to write down instructions correctly. I find drinking my three Litres challenging enough but it really does help to wash the toxins out , keep your and kidneys functioning properly . They need to be OK for each infusion.
Put those elephant size buckets of water away at once and just have a three litre bottle ready each morning. I find it easier to drink from a glass plain or with a slice of lemon rather those sipPy bottles.
I just want to wish you all the best and if I can help in any way let me know
