Travel with Forteo

I'm going to italy for 5 months. From here to my destination will be about 24 hours. I have 5 vials of Forteo. How do I keep it cool enough. Is it a hassle getting it in the plane. Do I need anything to travel with it. The needles will be in suitcase. Thank you

I traveled with forteo by car several times. Not the same I realize, but we found a small insulated bag, similar to what you might carry a six pack. We kept the cold packs that shipped with the forteo and the forteo kept very cool. Maybe dry ice might help too. How wonderful to go to Italy for 5 months! Have a fabulous trip.

I have traveled extensively with Forteo, and other Biological injectable medication. My longest trips were to Australia and Singapore, from the USA. I keep my injection pens in a small Tupperware-like case, that also contains a small digital thermometer (with a FRESH battery in it.) I then put the plastic case containing the injection pens into a ice pack case (like an insulated lunch box) slightly larger than the plastic case with the RX. (I was sent this when getting my Humira Injection pens.). When traveling, I put 2 blue ice packs in with the RX, one on the bottom and one on the top. I then zip up the case and put it in my carry-on travel tote bag. You want it to be accessible to you during your travels. About half-way through my travels I will quickly unzip and check the thermometer (without opening the plastic case; be sure to place the thermometer up so you can see it through the plastic case.) On one trip, I had a few hours of travel left and asked the flight attendant to bring me ice in a freezer bag I provided…which I then put into the zip bag with the medication. It got me to my destination within the temperature parameters. Also, on longer trips I have used pieces of thin styrofoam as added insulation. In the zip case, I put - starting from the bottom: 1) thin layer of styrofoam. 2) Ice pack. 3) plastic container with RX , w/ digital thermometer showing face up. 4) Ice pack. 5) thin layer of styrofoam. Do this as close to your departure time as possible. NOTE: I have found this brand of ice pack to work the best and stay frozen the longest - “FREEZ PAK - The Tundra” Reusable Ice Substitute, item no. 4981 (3 3/4” x 7 1/2” x 1/2”). Happy travels!
