Hair loss with Fosamax

I am supposed to begin taking weekly Fosamax soon. I just read several posts about hair loss while taking this drug. Has anyone experienced hair loss as a result of taking only Fosamax (not taking other prescription drugs)? Thank you.

Hi, I am taking Fosamax. I haven't noticed any hair loss but, I've only been on it for about five weeks. hth

Hi Katlute.

I took Fosamax for 6 months last year. After 3 months I started experiencing hair loss. It lasted 5-6 weeks then tapered off. My stylist noticed right away. I quit after 6 months due to hip pain that kept getting worse. I feel so much better now.

I have been talking synthroid for thyroid for 8 years, but that is all, no other meds.

I took advice from wbiC and started supplements and Sinaki’s exercises.

Thank you so much for your reply! Your experience helps me so much! My doctor pushed Fosomax - talked about death from a broken hip, etc. But I am in wonderful health (age 70), on no prescription meds for anything and walk miles/do weights workouts. I have had 3 hard falls over the last year and a half and got up with no problem and no pain afterwards. So, I don’t think I am in that category of death from broken hip. But I do want to address the osteoporosis. I have been researching all the osteoporosis drugs and estrogen. I have decided to go back on estrogen. There are new studies that refute the findings of the Women’s Health Institute (their study said it causes increase in breast cancer and mental decline. Actually, the opposite is true) and there have been many recent studies of the benefits of estrogen for osteoporosis. Really interesting!
