I'm not thrilled to be on Prednisone long term, along with Fosamax to protect my bones, but it is wonderful to once again be able to dress myself, put on my socks & shoes, tie my own shoes and numerous other things!

Has anybody taken Fosamax for at least 3 to 5 years and now show improvement on there bone scan?

I have thinning of the femoral neck -2.8 and the recommended treatment for my osteoporosis is either Fosamax or Antonel. Frankly, I have been hesitant to treat this condition. In reviewing the side effects, both appear to have adverse effects on the G.I. System.

I have basically been pharmaceutical drug-free, though, I did take about 9 doses of Fosamax at two different times, the last being in September. For reference, google tells me Fosamax might improve bone density from 4-6% over three years.

A fear I do have is when I need chemo they give you high doses of Fosamax... now that jaw rotting side effect, I fear more than my cancer journey.

Been on Fosamax for almost 5 yrs with no problems. Now I have a problem. Need tooth extraction and need to stay off Fosamax. I’m getting different opinions as to how long to stay off. Endocrinologist says 3-4 weeks is enough time. Oral surgeon and others say 3-4 months pre and post surgery.

But I had been on other ones - Evista, Actonel, Fosamax before the alendronate. Further I am currently on a proton pump inhibitor and H2 blockers, which aren't great either for the bones.
