Any suggestions

I was diagnosed with gastritis after endoscopy and was prescribed Lansoprazole 30 mg at night after two weeks I had severe reaction to this with migraines and constant diarrhoea which stopped me leaving house it got so bad .I was then switched to famitodine and managed to cope with that for so long taking at night but then headaches became very bad . I obviously don’t suit these meds but now I am not sure as to what I can do now as I am eating very plain diet and living on gaviscon . Has anyone else had this reaction and found something that helps ?

I had severe Gerd at one point for an extended period of time.I followed a strict acid free diet. And eventually after a couple if years I got better.I followed Dr.Jamie Kaufman's book Acid Reflux Diet.

Thank you . I had heard Dr Kaufman mentioned once but wondered if it would be worth buying the book . Think I will buy the book and give it a try as I am desperate for relief .

Hi! I have never had a reaction to this. When you are in bed make sure you are propped up.

Bicarbonate of soda is amazing for this. Taste awful but works. One teaspoon in half cup warm water and drink straight down

Hi I was on lanzoprazole for over 20 years but it suddenly stopped working I was getting chest pains and heartburn. I was put on 40 mg famitodine evening and 40mg morning it's not as good as a ppi but I managed, now after 2 months I've had to come off it as I just couldn't stop itching all over it was awful and also terrible palpitations! It is listed in the side effects but I thought I'd escaped them. I'm now at a loss I have zero energy and in fed up not being able to go for a nice meal. I've lost over a stone and a half but don't want to lose any more. I take slippery elm but nit sure if it's working. I try to eat a good diet but it is very bland. I'm sorry I cant be more help as bad as ppis are I would gladly go back on them if I could. Good luck maybe the book will help?

Because I can’t take the meds I am in a similar situation to you . I too had heart palpitations with famitodine. I am also now trying to eat a very bland diet . I don’t touch any alcohol, tea or coffee . I now drink camomile tea which I really don’t like but it seems to be better than ordinary tea of coffee . I am trying slippery elm but not sure about it . After listening to a talk by Dr Kaufman I do chew gum after a meal and that seems to help . I sleep propped up at night on my left side after taking plenty of gaviscon . I am also eating smaller meals and not having a large meal at night . Some days are better than others now but I hope your condition improves . My daughter who is a therapist suggested mastic gum at night which I might try but don’t know if anyone has had any success with that .

I had Gerd for nearly 20 years. Had all the usual tests ect. I was on omoprazole for years -one a day. Then it stopped working so well. However I have been a lot better lately and the only change I have made is that I drink a bottle of water before bed every night. I have been better through!! Try that. I know it sounds like it's unimportant, but I have to credit this change to my drinking the water!! Try it!!
