hello I had an endoscopy done today as I have near enough constant nausea it’s been going on for 5 months and I’m also suffering from constipation. Nothing was found today anyway and have been told it would be good to get a barium swallow. I’m just extremely worried about side effects I have very bad anxiety and wondering if it will make me throw up. And also if I’m constipated already how bad could it make me.
I appreciate any replies thank you

Hi, there is nothing to worry about with a barium swallow, it's not as bad as an Endoscopy! They give you a cup of Barium liquid to take a drink from about 6 or 7 times. It's just like drinking a Yogurt drink (life Kefir). It tastes OK and doesn't make you feel sick. You stand upright and then a large table type bed moves you into different positions. It only takes about 10 minutes.
hi Luke, I had a Barrium Swallow a couple of months back, nothing to worry about. Tastes a little sweet and a chalky, over in a couple of minutes. No side effects.
I had a barium swallow which was absolutely fine. There was a joky nurse who mixed up barium mixed with various thicknesses of food. Several people stood looking at screens to see how I was swallowing. The process was fine. I have a tendency to constipation, and you can have after effects which can upset your digestion. I have Laxido on hand to take if I get constipated., but compared with other tests I have had it was very easy to deal with,
