Unrequested lansoprazole

Hi, without any visits to a doctor, both my wife and I have been put on Lansoprazole. As far as I can see from the web this is a sort of indigestion/acid reflux medication. Why do you think they have done this?? Neither me or my wife have any stomach problems. Is this another case of big pharma paying gp's to issue their meds, or perhaps the government going into nanny state mode?

I think you need to ask your GP that question Tojax. It does sound very odd! I have been prescribed Lansoprazole despite normal results following an Endoscopy. PPI'S should not be used long-term.

Are you taking any other kind of medication. I was prescribed lansoprazole when I was taking anti inflammatories for arthritis. It was to stop me getting stomach issues as it protects the stomach lining.I changed to pantoprazole which is basically the same, but suited me better, and continued taking it when they diagnosed a hiatus hernia, and silent reflux.
