Ive been on Lansoprazole for years due to gastritis and Gerd. Ive had a horrible year, with a myriad other things going wrong and right now my GP wants me to reduce my reliance on Lansoprazole to see if these things go away. Im not convinced, but Im trying everything Im asked. Im down to 15mg every second day now. The acid on the second day is ok and subdues with Gaviscon, but Im having a lot of nausea and saliva-often at 4am and sometimes it goes on all day and I end up spitting saliva. Ive never had this before and dont know what to do about it. Any ideas?

Reducing lansoprazole
Hi, I am sorry you are struggling. I have been on Omeprazole for over five years, but cannot wean off them without terrible rebound acid reflux. I am like you and find night time symptoms the worst, with disturbed sleep. Have you tried taking the tablet about 6.00 p.m. before your evening meal, then it will last into the night. I take 10ml of Gaviscon Advance just before bed and sleep slightly propped up on my back. It is a misery, but sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck.
Rebound reflux seems to be extremely common and the main advice is really slow tapering off-which is what Im doing. Gaviscon Advance is really helpful, but I think it lasts for 4 hours which may explain my 4am problem-either that or its the Gastritis and an empty stomach 🤷♀️ Who knows, it all seems to be a balancing act! Thanks for replying, take care.
Hi. Sorry to hear about your problems. I tried to wean myself back down to 15mg that I had been on - as I had been fine for a few years on 30mg - and tried to rely more on Gaviscon - but I ended up feeling quite poorly and I just couldn't control my acid - I became more ill - I was then diagnosed with a stomach ulcer - took a long time to recover - my advice would be to try as your GP suggests but listen to your body and if you get worse go back to them...
