Hi I have had continuous burping after I had an ankle operation, I stopped using painkillers after 2 days, my gp put me on 2x20mg omeprazole I also take peptic liquid before bed it did get a little bit better but just as bad again. I have no appetite at all funny thing is it’s always worse at the first half of the day as the day goes on it gets better. I am eating little and often a very bland diet drinking water or no sugar diluted juice. I have got an appointment for gastroenterologist on Tuesday was just wondering if anyone has had similar issues.

This is usually due to the anaesthetic or it’s procedure. It’s possible it caused a small hiatus hernia hence the heartburn in the morning. Sometimes it’s caused by the anaesthetic so you need to know what was used to avoid it in future. If it’s that it should settle with time.
As well as seeing the gastro enterologist it may be wise to get your medical notes for the operation so you can find out what you were given and if anything happened so you have info for any future operation.
I found out I nearly died in an operation because they couldn’t pass the tube down my throat. I hadn’t been told. So it’s worth finding out if something happened.
So many precautions were taken for the last operation including giving omeprazole during the operation.
Thank you Bella it’s definitely worth looking into, I do have a hiatus hernia it was discovered when I had camera down the throat back in 2013 also had gastritis not had any trouble since..until now.

Hi Bella thought I would give you an update the gastroenterologist is sending me for an X-ray also an endoscope and colonoscopy. When he examined me he was pressing down my right hand side near my belly button and it was extremely sore hence all the tests so he can have a proper look.I currently take gabapentin for restless leg syndrome and mentioned to him that when I take them at night there is no burping so he suggested I take one in the morning which I have, don’t know if it’s coincidence but the burping has subsided somewhat. I will only do this until he comes up with a diagnosis and how to treat it.
It appears that either my pancreas is failing to make enough insulin or the insulin resistance has increased. The sugar levels are x4 higher than normal even on diabetic meds. I also found out there are several cysts in the pancreas, not 5 small ones.
Why does insulin resistance suddenly increase? Does anybody know?
The Gord is worse past few weeks so maybe connected.
I’m wondering if there are any gastro consultants out there who are taking this problem seriously since people in this forum seem to be very much left to fend for themselves. I can find little Med literature about it except when it becomes an issue with cancer.
Lockdown has been a major problem for me, particularly not being able to swim which strengthens my muscles.
Still no vaccine in site for people with special immune problems. The lupus society estimates there are 250,000 of us. I’ve written to Professor Van Tham. May get a reply.
