Nissen Fundoplication

I had my Fundoplication in 1998 and I know one of the main complications of this surgery is the inability to burp or to vomit. I've just gone thru a very disturbing night sick with Norwalk virus I suddenly began throwing up. I thru up for the better part of two hours. Since then I have pain in the region of my surgery site. Could I have damaged my wrap and that's why I have pain? I also thought to impart my advice as to learning how to burp again. When I was especially suffering with bad gas and bloating I would stand against my counter and push in and low and behold I can now make myself burp when I need to. I am trully concerned about my wrap. Will this pain stop in a few days?

I had n360 in sep17. I have a narrow oesop due to scarring caused by acid reflux. Sometimes food blocks and i am sick probably once a week. After being sick i find i feel a bit sore inside but also physically tired .. must be the strain. Im back normal in never more than 2 days usually less, Otherwise likely id seek advice. My consultant knows abt my situ and the plan is shortly to reduce my n360 to say a n270 .. to improve my swallowing. Good luck. G

Was just going to say about a partial wrap. If my 96 hour ph study is positive this option is something i'm going to press for or linx (my gastro is very anti linx though for some reason though). Should defintely improve your swallowing and if you have an issue with belching will improve that too. Not sure why physicians are in such a rush to give a full wrap which can cause so many issues. Anyway, hope things improve for you

I've suffered with a whole host of side effects from this surgery dumping syndrome both fast and slow, not being able to burp or throw up, no hunger pangs, can't tell when I'm hungry or when I'm full. Bloating due to a build up of gas. About once a week I have slight difficulties swallowing food it only seems to go so far and then it's a dead stop. I can't bring myself to take another bite after that. I do feel somewhat better today where I was quite sore yesterday. I've only thrown up once before but that was on account of a bowel blockage thankfully I was already in hospital I was immediately prepped for a 27hours stomach pumping. Not fun hence my fear of damage to my wrap. Thank you for your input!!

I have just found out mine wrap as come unraveled and all the symptoms are starting again . I have never vomited in 14 years since I had it done. I don’t have a hernia now though so that’s good . I have been put back on lasopromal and I am awaiting to go back and see what they will do about it. Yes yours could have come undone again go and have the camera down and get it confined
