Hi. I had a fundoplication done back in around 1992/3, it was done laparoscopically so only 5 very small scars recovery was very quick and it did improve matters, I was then monitored every 6 months with endoscopes until I was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. This does not mean that you may get it but is something to be aware of. My symptoms eased after the fundoplication but never went away I do know people who had the fundoplication and it sorted their problems and they are still healthy so that is a positive. I think overall that the operation was
Well worth while and while it didn't have the desired effect for me it did ease things for several years. I would however say that if the symptoms come back after the op then only delay s seeking medical advice. I has a full oesophagectomy in 2009 and am now enjoying life again I still get acid reflux several times a week but most importantly I am

Hi Ray,
Sorry to hear of your difficult journey π©
You really have been through the mill haven't you!
My situation has come around so quickly I have progressed from occasional heartburn to silent reflux to full blown GERD which unfortunately is not controlled by ppi's currently on lansoprazole 30mg morning 30mg night & bottles of gaviscone advance this has all happened with the space of a year!π
I am very lucky that I have private health insurance with work so have had all my tests very quickly and in lovely hospitals.
I have now taken the decision for the Nissen procedure as I strongly believe this will improve my quality of life I'm 34.
I think it's the right decision I was about 35 when I had mine, I had suffered from acid since I was about 19. I was in the forces at the time so my op was done by them and I was then checked whilst I was still in every 3 months until Left in 1995. I was then checked every 6 months on the nhs until 2009 when I was diagnosed it certainly improved my life and I wouldn't hesitate getting it done. Good luck. Ray
Thanks so much Ray,
I will try to keep you posted
16 days & counting π
Take care π
