Picking disorder

Is anyone else like me and cannot control picking their skin? I pick my face, shoulders, arms, chest and even my legs. It gets so bad I bleed and scar and my face is just a mess because of it! Is there any strategies people have used that have helped?

Do I recognize this! I've been a 'picker' for as long as I can remember and have been told off by friends and family for it more often that I can remember!

I have it partly under control. I manage to restrict my picking so I'm not doing it constantly. I make sure I keep anywhere I pick clean and that I wash my hands before and after I pick. I've managed to restrict how often and when I do it, and don't do it in public.

Try to keep your hands off your face as much as you can. It helps to keep your hands busy with other things. Sitting at a computer typing, doing needlework, making things, household chores, anything that keeps your hands from being idle can help them from straying to a scab or such like.

It's important that you observe rules of hygiene, and restricting your picking in this way can help you keep it under control.
