Hi guys i’ve suffered with contamination disorder since i was 13 (5 years) it’s been a long roller coaster but i finally beat the bulk out of it two years ago. Unfortunatly its starting to creep back into my life in the form of health anxeity. I’ve been on sertraline for the 2nd time and came off after a month due to its effect on my emotional state. I also have IBS so the main thing im worried about is bowel cancer. This thread is for anyone who is like me so we can support each other.
Any advice is more than welcome thank you

It's one of mine at the moment too, I've been knocking the rest away!! but the health one is a hard one.
I've been reading Clinician's guide to mind over matter, and so far I've managed to have a okay day!!
What I've been doing is if I have real concern, which I do at the moment, I'm getting that sorted out, I'm getting test done, so I can have real piece of mind, but what I do this time around is avoid looking on the internet, it'll cause spikes!!
Thank you for replying! :), im not in my best head space right now, im succoming to googling constantly to try and find explanations to most likely simple problems. I always end up convincing myself i have some sort of gastro bleeding or something wrong with liver or just myself in general 😂
Yeah it ain't fun is it, I think that's why I joke about mine from time to time, because it's a release.
I have a moto at the moment 95% good with my eating habits, and the rest is for treats. But yes, be careful with your diet, and make sure you are eating the right amount of nutrition for your body, that was something I didn't do growing up!! But I've got there now. 🙂
Actually maybe this will help!! Well it's something I'm going to try!!! It's kinda like a yearly mot!! I like to keep an eye on my health, and go for check ups, and do this in a healthy way!! I'm actually going to keep a health journal!! And I'm going to see if this will keep my overactive mind at bay.
The book I mentioned before is CBT for doing yourself, I've already had CBT, and would highly recommend it, I've got the books to see if they'll get me back on track.
Keep us updated with how your getting on, and I'll let you know how I get on with my GP, and journal. 🙂
That sounds great, thank you for sharing this with me, i’ll certaintly check out the personal CBT i too have had it before but i think its worth a shot again. Thank you again it’s great that people are so open to helping others on this forum. Fingers crossed we both get some relief!
I had horrible health anxiety when I was a child and teenager so I know how it is. Resist if you can the temptation to read up about medical conditions, as before you know it you have all the symptoms going!
It's a pity that sertraline doesn't suit. I'm afraid that OCD does recur and fluctuate a lot. It might be good to ask for a referral to a therapist that uses CBT.
Being as young as you are, medication needs to be used carefully anyway. So all the more reason for CBT.
It must be horrible having IBS but that doesn't mean you'll get anything else as a result. I suppose it makes you focus on your health more as you're more conscious of it, but if you can keep it under control by eating properly, and perhaps join a support group for fellow IBS sufferers you can let the health anxiety subside a little.
