OCD worries/anxiety

Hi I hope you don't mind me joining. My anxiety has started back up I am 16 weeks pregnant I am a massive worrier but in a different way I sound mad when I say this but I am in a fantastic relationship but I can think back on a memory from years ago and o add bits to it that never happend me persuade myself I have don't something wrong. I know this sounds insane but I look back on night out with friends and work colleagues and persuade myself I have cheated on my partner even though I would never ever do such a thing. It's like my head playing mind games with me.

Hi there,

I suffer with false memories too. I have an irrational fear of HIV and have created a scenario where I have touched a used syringe on a night out (this hasn't happened). But my brain will not let the thought go. Have you considered CBT? I've started to try and give myself something positive to work towards. I hope this helps but take note of what you said "I sound mad". This is your rational logical brain reassuring you that the reason it sounds mad is because you know deep down that it hasn't happened 🙂 Have faith in yourself.

Thank you so much for you reply you have made me feel so much less alone but I have even started doubting he is the father of the baby as I went out 2 weeks before I conceived!! And I am going over dates and anything from that night out!! It's seems to be destroying every inch of happiness I have I have the most perfect life but find ways to ruin it. I am so excited for the baby we both are but it's stopping me because I am convincing myself🙁 Sorry for the simple questions but what's CbT? Your reply really does mean a lot as I rely on this as I can't share with anyone else. I honestly thought I was the only person that thought like this xx

That is just what OCD does! It is like having something crazy on a loop going around in your head and messing with it. I do know, though not from personal experience, that pregnancy and childbirth are trigger points for OCD, as your emotions are so caught up in something that means such a lot to you - hormones could play a part as well.

OCD likes to attack you using the very things that matter most to you, like pregnancy and a good relationship. And OCD makes you doubt your own mind. Do get help for this - maybe the midwife could point you in the right direction, or even arrange for a referral.

I know just how it can be - I have had many experiences of this kind. It certainly isn't pleasant, but do get help for it. And all the best for you, your baby and your partner.

Don't let OCD spoil your happiness. Try not to go over things too much - it just increases your doubts, which you make clear are absolutely unfounded. OCD does this - people may know they are good at their job, for instance, and still they are afraid of losing it for incompetence. Enjoy the pregnancy and the baby, and your relationship, but do get some professional help as well. These problems are common enough, but too often people feel alone.

I want to I just feel like I sound insane. This is like the only subject I worry about I don't know whether it feeds of happiness and I actually start convincing myself. I use the fact that oh but I would of had a drink on that night out what if there's blank spots😔 What if this what if that. It's not good for me or baby I definitely need to get it sorted xx

Try not to go over it in your mind more than you can help - easier said than done, I know! The more you do, the worse the doubts become, and I'm sure you know that you have not cheated! Try to accept that you have done nothing wrong. As OCD often raises its ugly head in pregnancy, perhaps your ante-natal team can help - they may have experience of this with other women.

Hi, IF YOU DOUGHT IT IS OCD. This something that you have to learn to identify when the crazy thought comes to your mind. After you learn to recognize that every "IF" and any "DOUGHT " it is not you, it is your brain, you will started to be less stress since you will started to identify that it isn't you. The nex thing that you have to do is to STOP justifying by I mean is don't look for answers. Accept you thought for what they are just simple thought. That way your thought will start becoming more familiar to you until the point that you don't care for them any more.Remember OCD is the deseas of the dought .

Hi, I agree with the advice above. When you have these awful thoughts, Don't analyse them. Affirm out loud when you are alone or quietly when you are in a busy room;" This is our baby."

CBT is Cognative behaviour therapy. It's a treatment where by the psychologists teaches you how to overcome your fears and break your compulsions by teaching you to think differently and challenging Ocd behaviour. You need a referral from your Dr. Don't be afraid and speck to your midwife. Call MIND. They will be able to advise you more.

All the best for you, baby and partner.
