I bet you are really proud of yourself for doing it. Well done!!!!!!! (If I knew how to put a smiley face up I would).

I changed from tablets to injections. When you take it orally some of the drug gets lost while the stomach breaks it down. If it's injected the whole dose is in your system. I did comment to my consultant that I didn't think that getting just that little bit more of the drug would make any difference and he said it would and boy was he right.

At the time I was also taking SLZ 6x500mg a day. That worked out at 21,000mg a week. Yes, a lot when you think about it, but compare that to what dose my MTX was then 20mg a week. From that I came to the conclusion that even the minuets increase would make a difference.

Now you've done it, next time will be a lot easier.

Well done Claire! I believe that the thought of it is worse than doing it. I've been injecting now for a long time, and had the same scary thoughts as everyone at the beginning. I can say however, that at no time has it hurt, and just occasionally it might sting slightly, though I do tend to get bruises at times.

Thanks for letting us know Claire - I have to go on 27th but that's not my normal MTX day, will they just explain how to inject or might I have to take my dose early that week? I am hoping for improvement with injections but they will start Leflunomide if things don't change for me.

Thanks again, Julie.

You have to leave a week between taking MTX. I'd check if they want to inject it that day, you may end up with a wasted journey if you don't. They won't let you do it early.

Hi Julie ..my usual mtx day is a Monday but the injection clinic was only on Fridays ...so, my nurse said after my dose on Monday 4th leave until today's appt ... So yes I missed a week too, hope that helps x

I'm the same....was quaking before the first injection, and actually didn't manage it the first week as couldn't bring myself to do it. And now I just get on with it! can't say it's the moment I look forward to most in my week, but it's remarkably easy isn't it? Well done! Polly

Hi Claire, really glad it went well, I had my blood results today, My alt has been climbing it is now 72. As you may know i had scan done on it Wednesday and was told everything was fine, so it seems to me it could be the MTX, i had this blood taken before i took the increase of MTX from 15 to 20mg so i thinking if it is the MTX, would they consider me for the injection, or would they change the MTX to something else all together, XXX

Oh Shirl wot a shame ... It's odd , a good job the scan is ok though I guess.. They may consider injections but Shirl I'm not sure coz at the end of the day it's still methotrexate just put in your body another way?! I reckon they may try something else there are plenty of options ...don't let it get you down though as you have been doing soooo well ...it will get sorted lovely xx
