Hi everyone not been on since i said i was gonna try toclizumab ...Well after 25 years with the same company iv been given the big heave ho due to my time keeping... As i think i said before i have another disability called hemiplegic migraine.. Well that one is not to impressed with the Toccy after first dose of toccy seemed to be going good RA settled down almost immediately.. 4 wks later i skipped into day ward (cos i could lol) got next dose ...felt a bit disorientated but hey Im a woman in my 40's working fulltime in a factory got 2 teenagers single ..is that not the norm lol.. Anyhoo 4days had the worst ever HM in work that occ health got ambulance so i spent 6 hours in hospital waiting on getting feeling back to my limbs.... Gave toccy a miss for 2 month to get on my feet.. Saw my GP meanwhile fir unrelated issue ..only to be told that my cholesterol level were through the roof ..good old toccy (common side effect nothing to worry about Im monitoring you.. To quote my consultant ..aw bless ).. After his comforting words lol booked in for next dose.. Well long story short.. My BP was high through out the whole infusion ..i passed out after dose was administered ..had crap weekend ..went to work on Monday totally disoriented as Im on final warning g for my timekeeping which has only got horrendous in the last five year as my body keeps rejecting all meds for RA ..or due to pressure at work not been able to give mess time to settle.. Allow for weeks in dosage etc.. So occ health sent home saying i was unfit for work get my meds checked out.. Off work for 2 weeks .Returned to work only to get my p45 just un time for xmas ... Got clinic on wednesday lets see what road they me to go down next :-) thanks for listening xx

You want to take them to an industrial tribunal as you have been sacked unfairly due to your health. Hope you have got a job now or something suitable for your health.xx

that is appallling after 25 years you must have laegal rights??? at nost they should have let you have ill health retirement? Cccy health should have helped you stay in work? or done something?

Really sorry to learn all this - hope you can find the energy to fight it somehow and at least get the pay you deserve after working there for so long. Tilda x

You are brilliant - how you can recount all this in such an upbeat but straightforward way is beyond me. Factory work with RA and HM sounds like a hard number but getting the sack is even harder. Like the others say - surely you have rights? Have you had any kind of advice about this? If not then the NRAS helpline might be able to suggest where you could get employment advice. Let us all know how things go.

All the very best to you,

Luce x

Thanks for all your comments :-) x I am in a union an they were with me throughout the disciplinary hearing .. I d like to emphasise hearing lol as it was all they done cos i did all the talking :-) ... But i have submitted my tribunal application just waiting on response from union lawyers now to say whether i have a good case :-) Im not working at the moment and if Im honest i was struggling with my job for the last 2 years i was on my feet all day and it was a very physical job... The way i feel right now the only job id qualify for is a laboratory monkey lol xx hope ur all

Hey there, Good luck with your hearing/tribunal and I have to say the way employers treat chronically ill people is scandalous!!! I am very happy and impressed to see you haven't lost your sense of humour xxx

All the best, Christine

So sorry to hear this. Good that you have a union - I hope you get where you want. Can you de-stress a bit at the moment or is there too much uncertainty?

The last 3 months have probably been the worst ever mentally having always earned a very good wage (I worked in the manufacturing of Whiskey.I was in Quality Control in the last 4years ,iv been a forklift driver for 10 years and before that worked the production lines) So its a shock to the system having to deal with no routine iv had no motivation at all and then the best bit those lovely caring understanding people who work in the benefit office..what a shock that was i hope i font offend any of you hear my first encounter with one of them was ....I was asked to take a seat and would b dealt with shortly well there i am making small talk with a lovely young lad and an older women when this very harsh young girl came up to the 3 of us and just said "can i have a word with you" to no one in paticular ...i was quite taken aback by her harshness and had to ask "Are you talking to me " which she now thinks Im confrontational... Well it was not a good day ....but Im now on benefits... Anyone back to my point sorry went off on a bit if a rant there lol... I feel Im coming out the other end of my dark tunnel now am able to deal with big issues stopped burying my head in the sand and trying to use this time to de stress and get my meds sorted out. Back to the RA Im starting to flare up i thought i would take covers off my settee last week and wash them ..do any of you get told just because your no sore or swollen doesnt mean you tackle chores ..well it was a struggle getting them off and then back on but i did it and was quite pleased with myself... But 2 days later and my hand have all swollen up and my body is turning to stone while i sleep lol xx take care everyone hope iv not went on too much lol xx

ha well companys never learn

they have to make resonable adjustments for you disability and in this case they have not done so looks to me or had any discussion what so evere although you dont say

could be a good case for unfair dismissal under the disability act.

good luck with it

Good luck, sounds terrible ,why do we have to fight so hard,it's not as if we don't want to work, or take theses stupid meds just to function (or not in some cases ) !!! We just can't work as hard or effective as we could. So to be chastises for that is diabolical.

Oh, that's awful!!! I do hope you win the tribunal - how rotten of them and I think unlawful. My firm was great - I asked for a 4 day week due to my RA and as it is on the "Disability List" they had to consider it. Werent legally bound to grant it to me if it was detrimental to the business, but they had to consider it and happily agreed. The shorter week helped me enormously. They were extremely supportive and sympathetic I also was in the Union who i knew would help me if needed. I was one of the lucky ones.

Your firm should be ashamed of themselves.

Good luck with it and stay strong.

I am a great believer in the saying that as I door closes another opens, so don't despair. Whilst some firms are very good at managing disability issues there are also those who don't have a clue and the only way they will learn is if they are given big fines.

Something similar happend to me and whilst it was very hard at the time a few years later it came back to bite them in the bum - so I am also a great believer in karma!

When you feel stronger you should also let your MP/MSP know what has been going on because believe it or not they can be very helpful in such cases.

Try to stay strong and take each day as it comes and believe me you will get through it.
