Just been told by the Dr's that I have a 28% chance of having a hart attack and I will have to wait till Monday to get the blood test done today. Lets hope that I am still here on Monday.

Well thats straight and to the point isn't it.xx

How do you feel about this news?? Statistics are such strange things - it would have sounded a bit better if he'd said you had a 72% chance of not having one I suppose .....

As well as wondering how you've taken this news I'm wondering why this is the case & also what they can do to sort it out & what the blood test shows ....

I'm being very nosey. But I hope you do have a good weekend & can keep worry at bay.

I think this is very insensitive of your Dr. Hope the blood test is good news for you. One way of looking at it is that before s/he told you you were still in the same place, you just didnt know. I hope you can relax and try to forget it a bit - not easy I'm sure

Doh they can be insensitive , did you get a healthy heart check done? My hubby got one done and he is a healthy guy, by the time he came out he was terrified lol. But yeah it made me think and my meals have been healthier since, i suppose a good kick up the bum helps us all in the longrun. Oh and if you not here for this blog I can say what a lovely guy you are rofl xxxxx

Ok but 72 percent of not having one??? if it was me I would be on thr phone. but stay calm.. what has made him say this??. could be a blood test? or high bp OR BOTH? Do you smoke?. I sometimes have an aspirin. as at mom due to steroids my bp is high x

I don't understand what that percentage means at all. Does it mean that you have a roughly one in four chance of having a heart attack? Or an increased risk of 28% compared with other people? (that's a lot less than twice the risk!)

And what is the absolute value against which you are being compared - that is what is the rate of heart attacks in your age group for men? if, for example it is 1 in 100, then even double the risk would only bring it up to 2 in 100.Comparing our absolute risk gives us a much better idea of what the risk actually means.

I've found that percentages aren't understood by most people, including doctors.

Hi first of all I would like to thank all of you for your kind words and to say that i am fine and have NO intentions of having a hart attack LOL. I think the easiest way to answer your questions is this way.

A 28% chance of a hart attack is considered very high and what makes this worse is my BP is at 130 over 95 not very good, my inflammation is up to 6 my, platelets are up to 399 and my cholesterol level has shot up to 8. So all in all I not feeling very well but one thing for shore I will keep on laughing.
