I was answering a blog this morning about my blog yesterday and it came to me.
What do you do to keep normal with RA. I paint my nails and colour my hair and i always put perfume on everyday.... Over to you all, this should bring out some amazing responses.......

I'm like you Syliva, I keep my nails nice, (well as i am not working at the moment they don't break as much) And i have my hair done regularly from a good friend of mine, when i see people if i am sitting down they don't seem to think there is anything wrong, I think it is important to try to look after yourself as it does make you fill better,
So do I !!!! my husband believe it or not.... I'm always asking him..have you got your make up on yet :)) He does like to look after himself, so i shouldn't moan really, every thing he does he take his time doing, Can be a nite mare when i want some DIY done....Take care Xx
Like you I get my hair done regularly I like a good cut. Always get dressed. Wear perfume and a little make up. But most of all a smile that often hides the pain. Fools others and sometime myself. I love to write poetry and read a variety of books and listen to music. Concerts and movies.
I hVe my nails done as bite them but different colour acrylics every 3 weeks,my hair is dyed and highlighted every 6 weeks,I shop til I drop every week tho necessities are comfy boots at the min lol !! I've got for fitflops boots this time and will be ordering online today,I have their sandals and flip flops and don't feel any pain so fitflops boots are on the agenda today !! I lunch with my friends once or twice a week.i wear make up every morning with a spray of perfume and I never go out the house without lipstick haha !!!!!! Xxxxx
I got in trouble at my last rheumy appointment for having my nails done my daughters on a nail technicians course and said I had beau lines. I showed my gp who agreed but brushed it off as one of just a few side effects of ra so I let my daughter file then down a bit after taking some photos for rheumy. They told me off, said I should leave them alone so they can diagnose NOT gp
So cant do nails now till after feb
Myself, I always wear makeup and perfume, go to the hairdressers on a regular basis and still have the top stylist at the salon. These all happen on the days that I get dressed, today is looking as one of those days where I wont be, I have done too much over the past few days that body is saying no more, so Pj's it is, never learn do we. Sometimes when I put makeup on I only use a smattering of mascara as my eyes can't see too well, even with a 50% increase makeup mirror, using grey or black eye shadow it's not too noticeable. Not too good on the nail varnish as the psoriasis in the nails make them very flaky and brittle, getting better, will try again in a few months time and see what happens.
I can't seem to manage nail varnish at all? I had some put on by a lass at Edinburgh airport in November when I was waiting for a connecting flight and it was a disaster. I really should have stuck to a manicure because my nails are thin and brittle always so the tend to snap or split often. She chose bergundy colour for me and afterwards I sat looking at them while they dried thinking it just wasn't me - I've only ever had them painted pale colours before and not often. The my phone started ringing and I absent mindedly put hand in bag and the rest you can all guess at I'm sure! My young niece ended up having to clean the lot off for me and my finger tops were stained as if is been picking raspberries for weeks!
If I do them ever its with clear gloss nail hardener and I have to keep them short always. I also pluck my chin when I can be bothered and use mascara and eyeliner first thing everyday. And I live in fit flop biker boots! Xx

You do get in some scrapes Tilda, it keeps us on our toes! How's the puppy training in this weather, on the back burner?
• in reply to
Don't assume the weather here is always worse or even as bad as the weather you're getting south Georje! We have no snow here and the dogs have just been haring around the garden in the dark with the zoomies! Or rather Ruby has zoomies and is like a newly lit rocket whereas Fred's getting tired and a little snappy just like me! But we haven't had a single pee or poo in the house today so she is getting there slowly but surely (hope this isn't a case of famous last words!) xx
I get my hair done regularly ( due now for another visit !! ) and wear perfume every day, just been the other day to get new glasses, Some days put mascara on but not every day. Busy today knitting a new hat, scarf and gloves, thats if my fingers dont hurt too much.
Also like to make sure there is always cake of some sort in the house for any unexpected visitors, love baking, and with all this snow i cant get down the drive anyway !!!
I think it is really important to feel and look as good as you can, so I have my hair cut regularly and I am a pale blonde at the moment to chase away the grey. I'd love to wear some colour on my nails, but that's a no no, because I do a lot of looking after my husband, showering redressing his bad foot, creaming his bum as he tends to get sores being wheelchair bound. so I can't be scratching him can I. I love clothes, so I'm always shopping on line as well as window shopping. I tend to live in my ugg slippers, but I'd love to get into some trendy shoes, but I wouldn't stand the pain!! I'll have to go looking for some fit flops now. Lots of hugs all round. June xx
P.S Thanks Sylvie for an interesting and fun blog. June xx
That's an inspired question Sylvi. I'm trying to get up the courage to book up for a 'wild swim' round a small island in July & if that actually happens it'll be better than normal for me as I've always been frightened of the sea. In fact I think planning ahead at all is a normal thing that I've tended to fight shy of till recently.
But what I want to know is what is it with FitFlops??? They keep getting mentioned so I'm wondering just how good are they? Luce x

And Tilda, I love the bit about your chin - priceless! Reminded me that it's probably time to find the tweezers & look at certain bits of my face in a good light!
Luce they are special shoes that are supposed to help you exercise your legs while wearing them. They don't come cheap either, but a lot of people have them. I haven't invested in a pair yet. sylvia.xx
HI I am a nail girl I do like my toes painted and when I had to have it off for my op i hated it but one of my daughters is a beauty therapist so when she comes my toes are painted and at the moment I have snowmen but im going for flowers next week when she comes i also have a mate of my other daughter do my fingers on a weekly basis as I cant file or cut them at the moment and they seem to grow so fast but if they get to long they split I dont do make-up but like Tilda do have a chin problem and to keep the grey away i do have colour in my hair my other daughter is a hairdresser but at the moment she is living in North Yorkshire but in a few months moving to Bury St Edmunds so she will be nearer and we will see more of her so more hair does I hope over the last few months I have lost a lot of weight so I am doing a lot of retail therapy as I am now down to size 16 first time in years but as we are snowed in I have been banned from going out so thank goodness for internet
I have a cashmere jumper I wear, it's got lots of concealed holes in it and its never too hot or too cold. I say to myself I can do what I want like the old lady in the poem who wears purple with a red hat that doesn't go, and I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves ... I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells and run my stick along the public railings ... I shall go out in my slippers in the rain and pick the flowers in other people's gardens and learn to spit
make me forget me aches and pains even if its for a couple of mins
that must win me that last browni
just look at this snow while im on the computer what have i done to deserve this especialy this morning
i knew when i have to go anywhere shit happens forgive my french
and someone has hit the side of a car parked on our top corner 1/2 hr ago going to fast syl some people think their driving a sledge its the kids playing snowball that gets me and these people driving in a none safe manner round the corners
and mines on the other corner think im going to have to move it
Alright you can have the last brownie,i am not going too far today, except a funeral this afternoon. Our close is like a skate rink. The road is covered in snow and my class this morning was cancelled. Some of the drivers think it gives them a right to drive how they like and they have no idea about the weather conditions. My two grown up kids were having a snowball fight when they came back from the club last night. Now that was a sight i missed as i was sound asleep....xx
i wa only telling gaenor the other night i can remember the lake near us 2 foot thick in ice in 1966 and 1667 and ice skating on it and we used to have a big log fire going in a drum tin
never felt the cold then sil did we
now i dont think me knees and ankles could take a pair of skates LOL
Love all the comments above....we're all quite alike in the things we do to boost our spirits. I love perfume and never go out without a spray.....whenever i'm in the fragrance & beauty section of a store you can see me going round the different counters sampling them all.
I'm quite well known at work for spraying....perfume of course...LOL!!!
We have quite a bit of snow where we are so I decided to go for a walk in the woods near us with my husband saturday afternoon....and of course I slipped over on my back...luckily I had a soft landing as the snow was quite deep, so no bumps or bruises....!
Unfortunately for me and my bank balance it's hand bags!!!!! Used to be shoes but that's a no no as getting more than 2 or 3 comfy pairs is almost an impossibility!! Really fancy a manicure now after reading all the responses xx
Now that i specialise in,especially pink ones. I have loads of handbags and loads of shoes, you would be surprised how many nice shoes there are without heels. Also glizty earrings as well.xxx
For me it's regular hair appointments - my one luxury as I go to a chap who used to train at the Vidal Sassoon school in London! Thankfully not as expensive as it is there but he always cuts it to suit the age I wish I was not the age I am (or the age I sometimes feel). Never go a day without perfume and slap the warpaint on if I'm working at the surgery or going out and about. Used to always have lovely long painted nails but since I qualified as a reflexology that's a big no-no: painting them is seen as unprofessional and for some strange reasons my lovely clients don't fancy having lumps gouged out their feet! Some people are soooo fussy Still do the toes when I can reach them and refuse to dress my age. Aiming to grow old disgracefully x
I always said that i would be like the old boys in last of the summer wine, until someone said i would be more marina thank compo. I fell about laughing when that was said to me i can tell you.xxx
After my appoint with registrar I went and blagged a "free" make over ok so I bought a couple of the items used. I looked normal for the rest of the day. im looking so pale at the moment and in pain cant be bothered much with make up at the moment it was nice x
I would like a free make over,if i could get the chance. I understand how you feel with the pain, have a few aches and pains this morning. Take care and stay in the warm as its b""""y cold out there. Love sylvia.xxx
Hi Sylvi,,,,,,,,,,,,I'm back!!!!!!! I am concerned that in my absence you have begun to entertain the idea that you might be normal. Now. that is not the Sylvi I recognise. As far as I can tell you are far from normal. lol
