Hi Cathy, I think you've seem the other post in sept re shin pain. The one thing that I wonder about is the link to pain in feet and tight muscles & so on. Is the pain at front or back of leg?
(Syli, IDK=I don't know)
Hi Cathy, I've been having this type of pain since childhood (I'm now 52), My consultant says it's Enthesitis which is inflammation at the site where ligaments and tendons attach to the bone.
What you describe sounds like it might be the same. I was diagnosed many yrs ago after complaining for yrs about bone pain which was painful to touch above the ankle and below the knee joints.
It's very painful and if I've been standing for any length of time (15/20 mins) it feels like the bone is going to snap. I get to the point where I can't stand any longer and must sit which is a big mistake as once stopped it's very difficult to get going again.
Sadly with me it's now widespread affecting all fibrous tissue, I have regular 80mg Kenalog (steroid) injections into my bottom which gives whole body pain relief and a respite break from the pain so I can recharge my batteries.
If it's bad speak to your doctor who'll examine you for tender points around the body, sadly there's not much you can do except take the RA meds, painkillers and do gentle exercise to maintain muscle strength which goes for any kind of arthritis.
Good luck hope you find out what it is.
Beth xx
IKD=I don't know perhaps? TT
I know I shouldn't laugh but when I read your blog I felt like singing, "the thigh bones connected to the knee bone, the knee bones connected to the shin bone" etc etc.
Not come across this myself. could you have strained something although I think Beth's response is closer to the mark. I read an article about Enthesitis the other day and beginning to think that is what is affecting my shoulder, right knee, collar bone and arm as well. It does affect the ligaments and tendons where they join the various bones and can cause excrutiating pain.
Do speak to your GP or rheumy consultant and get them to have a look at the pain areas. It may be possible for a scan to be done - worth asking.

I have been experiencing shin pain for about 3 months now. First thought must be walking on a facture (which have done before) then it must be a loose knee prosthesis. When it was none of the above, I was told it was a deep seated inflamation of the tendons, which I guess is Enthesitis which I had not heard of before, steriod injections have made little difference unfortunately, waiting to see RA Consultant.
