Hi everyone hope you are all feeling pain free today. We have had a few mornings of heavy frost here and it has really gone cold. My husband and I have been decorating our hallway, but for the last few days my eyes have been burning and smarting, this started before we started decorating so was just wondering if anyone else has had this, i'm on 15ml MXT and SFS.
Also i hope i'm not the only one who gets really frustrated that i can't do more before i get really tired, i still think i can do the same as before this RA

Hi Miss - just wanted to say that once the disease is controlled by the drugs you take then you should be able to look forward to a much better quality of life again. That's certainly been my experience but it did take about 6 months to get things much better and then a further 4 months for things to be as good as they are now with lots of adjustments to the medication. But things will get much better for you too I'm sure. Tilda x
Wendy it be because your not making any tears. I have to use eye drops all the time now and sadly its down to meication and is one of the side effects. I for once am having a good day,i also slept well. This makes a change for me. xxx
RA can also affect your eyes too so best to tell your rheumy or rheumy nurse asap. Tilda x
I have stinging burning eyes most days, its on and off,but they water too,it cud be RA but at opticianss she said I had something called dry eyes, and told me to get artificial tears, which are eye drops and used for a lubricant.mine are defintly dry, feels like I have been in smoke sometimes its very strange and irritating when I have eye make up on lol !! Hope this helps Michelle xx
Hiya , my Rheumy told me that i have to have a annual eye check done, when i had my first appointment, But i can't remember what the reason was, Apart from RA can affect the eyes, So make sure you mention this is your GP or Rheumy, if you haven't had one done,
There are some potentially quite serious eye problems that go along with autoimmune disorders, so if there is either pain or abnormal redness, or eyesight changes, or bad photophobia, then please get off to a doctor very very quickly to get it checked. If its an inflammatory problem then it needs to be treated right away to avoid permanent damage. If there is bad pain, or bad eyesight changes, then get off to an emergency eye clinic. Make sure you tell whoever you see that you have RA, because then they will know what to look for. Don't assume its just dry eye, but even if it is dry eye, you need to get it checked because that can cause things like ulcers that need treating to avoid damage. Eyes are precious.
I'll just add my experience here. I was having burning eyes, felt as if they had sandpaper on them but I ignored it thinking I was just tired. I went for my appointment with the consultant but didnt mention it. a couple of weeks later as I was complaining to my Mum about my sore eyes and that I was getting thick white muck in them, she told me to go to the docs. coz eyes are important. So I go to the Docs and he told me I had dry eye and its because of RA and I should tell the consultant. Apparently I still have tears but the quality is not good enough to wash the eyes.
Obvservation is part of being a doctor isnt it? My consultant looked at me while I was there, I dont kow why she didnt just ask me if my pink eyes where normal.
Hi, my optician told me that dry, itchy/burny eyes is often a symptom of inflammatory arthritis. Your GP should be happy to prescribe artificial tear eyedrops or, if you pay for prescriptions individually, they're available off-script cheaper.
