MY BLOOD RESULTS ARE WORRYING!

I've had a call from my gp to have my bloods repeated in 4 weeks. My GGT (liver function) is 129. Apparently it should be between 5 and 36. I've been on Rituximab now for 6 weeks and im not taking MTX. Does anyone know why this could be so high? Has anyone else had this ggt reading?

i just know that high numbers mean it is affecting your liver/breaking it down so you want to follow through and keep a close watch on how you feel and let your MD know if you are not feeling well

good luck, Nancy

Hi I know that abnormal blood results can be worrying. Sometimes they can just be a blip. It might be a good idea if you rang your G.P to discuss your concerns as four weeks can feel like a long time to have this playing on your mind.I have had abnormal bloods in the past and then they have settled down. But not on Rituximab as I have only just on that.

I hope things get sorted out.

Hi Optomistic

There is quite a useful website where you can look up information about different blood tests called 'Lab Tests Online': labtestsonline.org.uk/

In the section about GGT it states that: "Raised GGT concentrations indicate that something is going on with your liver but not specifically what. " There is quite a lot of good information about how it's used and what the results mean. But as the others have mentioned it may be worth discussing your concerns with your GP.

Kind regards

From what I understand about liver function tests, if its just one marker that is outside normal, then it may not be as much of a problem as if several are, so if its only the GGT then it doesn't seem that the doc has thought it was enough of a problem to hold off your anti-tnf medication. Also even though it seems quite a way outside the normal range, some of these numbers don't start to get serious until they become much much higher (like 6 times or 10 times the top of the normal range) and yours is about three times top of normal.

Definitely ask to talk to your doctor about it though - as others have said, four weeks is a long time to wait to see what has happened with it.
