hurts me that is.
I have one of the lightest possible duvets, a single mulberry silk one. I used a microfibre blanket up to now but it's too cold at night now.
anyone found a lighter one?

Hi Sandra, I sleep in a single bed on my own now as both myself and OH have health problems and instead of a duvet I use throws - the type which you would use as a decorative item on the bottom of the bed. I get one for a kingsize bed, and they are padded. This fits quite well over a large single bed. Also, I don't bother with covers for them I just use them as they are. They are cheap enough at places like Mattalan, Asda and etc. so having a couple of them means one can be in the wash and the other on the bed. Also, drying them is a doddle. I hang it over the bannisters and they dry in a few hours they are so light. I also wash them in the machine on a very cool, mild wash so that the padding remains intact. (Even when they say that they need to be dry cleaned. (Mind you, I've washed loads of stuff which says dry clean only and got away with it - even down to handwashing coats and then spinning them before I've hung them to dry)
Hope this helps.

Hi Sandra, I'm glad you raised the question of quilts, I have the same problem. i was wondering how I was going to solve this problem and Judi has made a good suggestion. I've just had another idea, I wonder if a light weight sleeping bag opened up so it's flat would work? Good Luck, Jackie.
I bought one of those long body pillows from somewhere, and that goes right down alongside my body. It definitely helps take some of the weight of the duvet off me.
The other thing you could try is to find a duvet cover that is really thin and light, as most of the weight is in the cover, not the filling.
Hi Sandra,
I've just recently put my winter duvet back on and found its too heavy for my swollen feet. So have been making do with a couple of cushions stuffed at the bottom of the bed to take pressure off!
Hope you find a solution.
Caroline.
OMG i thought i was alone with this problem, and everytime i had to eaxplain to my OH about it, i sounded bonkers " a quilt too heavy and hurts me" !!!!im not a crazy person who revels in other peoples suffering but it does make me feel better that i'm not alone in this
I like earthwitch have a long body pillow, and like Judi i use kingsize bed throws! Wow we're so alike I find they all really help but sometimes i am still just too sore and i resort to slepping ontop of the covers (so underneath me is v padded) and i wear a hoodie, dressing gown etc to keep warm! I'm sure it must look nuts and certainly not very sexy! I'm sure my hubby looks at me and thinks, "well before the wedding it was suspenders and little nighties" lol!
Good luck

Hi, I had same problem but found silk single duvet to be the answer. I then bought cheap silk online and made a duvet cover. This fits the bill, hubby has his own weight duvet so we are both happy. Perhaps we should set up our own company selling stuff to people like us !!
Best od luck, j
I too am having problems with the duvet, i have bought a few but find them all too heavy. I have been reading online for information on the lightest ones available and it seems that goose feather is the warmest and lightest, although they seem to be the most expensive, just wondering if anyone has tried one before i spend more money on another duvet that's not right.
Afternoon everyone! Yer think I posted something recently about finding bed uncomfortable ie anythin' touching my skin 'hurts'. I do similar things for comfort such as lie on folded double quilt plus a single one. Last Christmas I got an all season Hungarian goose down duvet. Was on offer online. Upside- Unbelievably light in weight, really snug. Downside - smells like that Dactarin foot powder stuff and i think this is to kill any trace of Bird Flu virus. Told the smell will go! Also, as already said, you still need a very light Duvet cover if paing alot for Down Duvet. Recommend 2 singles on a double bed with OH as duvets restrict turnig and wakin' partner up. I have to turn loads to relieve the pain. hope this is hepful? J. x
Like the idea of starting up a business - another idea would be to get an already existing company to listen ! Dont suppose that will ever happen.
We've been asked on here by students for input into various ideas they already have - shame they don't ask us what things we would like.
Here I go getting silly again ........... I think the first thing I would ask for would be a new body (I'm the first one .... you can all fight for whose next!)
Have the best weekend you can get xxxxxxxx

Hi
I use a duck or goose feather & down duvet. They are much lighter and are not heavy, but provide warmth. Last winter I purchased a microfibre fleece blanket as they are light and I use a decorative duvet also. So I use 3 layers, but they are light. It's not cold enough as yet for the micro fibre fleece blanket, so I am using 2 layers are present.
I hope that helps

Alongside a lightweight duvet, would an electric blanket help with the warmth problem? I have one and it helps massively with sore hips/feet, and also helps me sleep beautifully. Mine has three heat settings, and I generally have it hot for when I first get into bed, then I turn it down low for overnight. Another plus is that it makes my cat very happy!

thanks all.
When I bought my memory foam mattress topper it said do not use with an electric blanket as it affects the topper's properties.
if problems continue, I might have to take my topper off. [ooh matron!]

sandra.
I'm OK with one duvet in the summer but now the weather is getting colder we need two as we can't afford to have the central heating on much, they are so heavy I feel I'm fighting them all the time. Would love to be able to afford a feather one, I'm sure the cats would like it too!
