Sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the waves......

In desperation this morning I decided to head to the beach, quite unheard of for a Dublin person to go to beach in summer haha! Seriously we all go to beaches around Dublin in winter, the traffic, kids, n tourists would seriously put you off in summer, along with the overly political correctness of no dogs between 10am & 7pm, not to mention the weather.

Anyway, off I set with my two pooches, to a place called Skerries North County Dublin & proceeded to paddle for an hour, this has been suggested to me by my football mad boss as a great method used by footballers for injuries, well you probably all have heard of sea water being theraputic, but I can tell you it was fantastic, cold but not icy, gentle waves, lapping in, beautiful views. We Dubliners take the coast for granted, we are surrounded by beaches since small kids, and yet where do we go? yes abroad for holidays.

'The foot' feels amazing (but sandy). Although, on the downside, I was a bit scared when I saw the jelly fish, having been reared on the coast I know is a sign of warm seas, not scared for myself but for Milly my pug, & Lucy my Shih TZu, having said that they were much more interested in the sea weed, which I was tempted to take some of home, (is'nt that supposed to have health benefits too)? I did'nt as the smell in the car would have been odious, along with the scent of wet dog!

If you live near the sea, I would highly recommend this, it is a dull cloudy day here, warm, but occasional rain, it was still fabulous, infact I might do it again tomorrow. :)

Ps. Sorry if you are miles from the coast. :(

xxx Gina.

sounds lovely. my boss just came back with bad. jellyfish sting. still has the rash from the warm American coast.!. gosh the north/ irish sea must be getting tropical.. or it something drifting from sellafield lol xx

Yes! Gina I am about 7 miles from the sea here. I can see it from the chicken field (lucky chickens!) I think that is a fabulous idea. I shall have to pinch someone's dog though but I think they are banned in the summer? Doh alright I will take myself and have a paddle! My right foot is swollen and the ball of my foot feels all crunchy and lumpy.

Off I paddle...

Hi Gina, Yes I am about 6 miles from the sea and a couple of miles over the marshes from the river mouth. We often go down in the winter to walk on the beach at Snettisham with the dogs who love the sea. Very bracing. We are about 11 miles from Hunstanton and on one or two occasions, have been very fortunate to see the Northern Lights when the weather conditions were right. Just a green undulating glow in the distance. Hunstanton is the only East Coast resort which faces West - we get some lovely sunsets and huge Norfolk skies. And of course, we have access to some lovely beaches around the North Norfolk coastline.

When we were in Ireland in April, we travelled by train from and to Belfast to Dublin - the train running down the coast as it neared Dublin. Really lovely scenery. Once back just outside Belfast for a reunion, we took a coach drive along the North Antrim coast - absolutely spectacular, particularly the Giant's Causeway. We have some lovely places in GB = I think the only reason we go abroad is to be sure of the weather. LavendarLady x

Hey Gina thanks for that suggestion - the sun is just about out here for once and I live a mile away from nearest beach - and I have a dog who loves swimming! I will take him when I've finished the job application I'm working on. Will bathe my hands in it too as they are SO bad just now. I can't take my drowsy medicine (Amitriptilyn) tonight as on call for middle son who is off at the County Show dance where all is madness so I need some homeopathic remedies to keep me going tonight!

Um I also wanted to ask you about something? I was searching for other things that would cause this random, moving about type pain in joints if my CCP is negative (when I finally hear tomorrow hopefuly!) . So I came across something called Palindromic Rheumatism which seems to fit and when I put it in the HU search I read that you had started with it before developing RA? Any more you can tell me - should I suggest it to my GP if the rheumy still saying "inconclusive"? Might it explain the low positive RF and the elevated ESR do you think?

yep my initial diagnosis was palindromic RA, I was put on plaquinil first by my excellant RA Consultant followed quite quickly by MTX, was'nt long before twas bog standard RA. My Consultant explained it by saying 'it' was racing around my body trying to catch hold. I was treated quite agressively meds wise, no dithering at all. Within 3 months of waking up evry night with a different joint aflame & burning hot I could'nt walk from front door to gate a mere ten paces! Today, my RA is currently controlled by cobination dmards but mainly a bi weekly shot of Humira. Once my GP (well actually a locum) saw RA factor she treated it very seriously and arranged an immediate Rheum apt as early intervention has been PROVED to improve the outcome! what can I say I am no expert, but I'm OK today, still have it but keeping going.... All of above in my experience!

Also,

I had no factor in my blood ten years previous to this as I was checked. Stress triggered mine of that I am sure as I had aterrible year previous to diagnosis, but that would be the subject of a book, it included teenage suicide, bipolar, colon cancer, mad relations etc etc, I might add none of the problems mine but I got sucked in!

Just back!, cycled there with dog, now she smells really bad :)

Are you feeling any better?

I've always loved to have my feet in water, not usually sea because I'm not close enough! lol

Even on holiday when i get that horrible burning pain in my feet, I sit on the edge of the pool and dangle my feet it and that could be in the early hours of the morning on holiday and it feels great.I or sit with them in a bowl of water at home, cold water as always felt comfortable to me with my RA, hands, feet mainly.

I suppose we do whatever makes us feel better.
