come down with a cold and blood test tomorrow morning. Do I postpone?

hello everyone

Has anyone on the forum ever found that your liver results have been impacted if you’ve had a medication monitoring blood test with a cold? Or should I be postponing it? I have a sore throat and bad throat. Not Covid. I get into such a state about these damn tests and now I feel very anxious.

I would suggest you postpone as you can’t be sure it’s not Covid, Flu or RSV just yet. The sore throat may mean it’s not just a cold. Even an early negative Covid test can be followed by a positive test a day or two later when the viral load has increased. Also as your profile states you get respiratory infections you may want a day or two to rest and try to avoid another one!

Whatever you may have, even a cold, it’s better not to spread it to others at your surgery/hospital/work as some attendees may be very immunocompromised and at high risk of developing serious infection.

Hope you feel better soon.

I wouldn’t postpone for a cold, if you’re worried about infecting people then wear a mask. It won’t make a difference to your blood test results.

Yes wearing a quality respirator mask is a safe precaution to avoid infecting anyone with any unknown virus or infection.

My view? Depends how critical your blood test is. Personally wouldn’t take my germs to a hospital or gp if I could avoid it. Hope you feel better soon.

I wouldn't postpone for a cold as my bloods were supposed to be in December, I asked if I could get a different date as I couldn't make that one, they offered me a January date but when that came round we were snowed in so then they offered me another date which the consultant then cancelled so now I'm at the end of Feb, I hope I actually get to this one and there are no issues 🤔

How's your cold today?

Dear Allanah

Thank you so much for checking in. I feel ok bit of a sore throat, but wish the same could be said for my blood results!! Alk Phos and ALT both up and out of range. And my kidney function now even lower 😬. I’ve emailed the rheum nurses but not sure what the next steps are…☹️

Have you ever had similar?

Yes had similar, it was the rheumy drugs I was on were causing the problems in my case. So they changed them. Hope they get you sorted ASAP x
