I have a swan neck deformity middle finger middle knuckle left hand and a Boutonnière (on middle finger, same place, opposite hand) which goes the opposite deformity/bend to the swan. As they are on middle knuckles I can use the Oval 8 plastic ring supports. The tendons slackened off and let the bones deform with mine, but they are not painful. Is your rheumy aware?

Yes rheumy are aware when doing a score on my joints. Unfortunately Beni after 2 years affected my stomach and I came off it. Now waiting for Tocil... But first have to run this pass Gastroenterology as I have Diverticulitis and it could do what Beni did to me. Have had RA for 19 years .

Hope you get approval to start Tocilizumab. 🙏

I have swan neck deformities in 4 fingers. I use the oval rings as well. I remember 1 of the fingers was painful when it started & it used to lock in the position. Once the deformity took hold the pain stopped.Sounds like you need to see an occupational therapist who specialises in hands.

I have this on both my index fingers and I think it has been like it since I was born. My mother had exactly the same. I have had RA and RA deformed hands for around 45 years, I am now in my 70s, I did not link the swan index fingers with RA, although reading your post I question whether it may be. I assume it to be genetic. Have been on benepali for 2 years.

No I'm told it's erosion of a finger joint that gives the tip to bend. I haven't always had it and it's linked to my RA

Thanks. This is useful. I have never asked about it.

My middle joint of the finger has eroded and only the tip will bend giving the swan neck appearance

Hello. I've had RA for over 20 years and my fingers were always great but last year having had to wait 4 months for a repeat infusion due to funding issues, my little finger became very painful and then turned up at the tip. It happened very quickly . It was a bit painful at first but not now. I have an appointment in March with Hand Therapy department. Not sure what if anything they can do but I suspect it will not go back now.
