Grandson has preschool booster (3 years 4 months ) -grandparents immunosuppressed

Feeling anxious! I suffer from anxiety and found out today that our grandson had the Preschool booster. We have a family 40th party tomorrow and the GP said we could be in same large room but to keep away from grandson (close contact) but it would be fine to see him properly after a week. I’m on Baricitinib & husband Humira. Does anyone know if correct as my GP doesn’t know about the rheumy drugs.

Hi

I did a little bit of googling for you.

If you type in oncolink.org and type in the search bar : exposure to people after they had a vaccine.

Really helpful information

Xxx

haven’t looked at oncolink page, but your drugs just compromise your immune system, (more so you than your husband) people on cancer drugs have hugely suppressed immune systems. So very different risk.

Are the boosters injections or nasal shots? If nasal make sure someone has a tissue and wipes their nose. You do not want them dribbling or sneezing on you. And yes no prolonged cuddling just for a few days.

There have been posts on this before if you search and this is NRAS advice

Thank you it’s the MMR part that’s live.

I looked at that link but only mentions flu and kennel cough but thank you x

MMR is attenuated, not live, so risks much less.

Thank you . We went to the party (nieces) but didn’t have any close contact. He ran past a few times -all the kids running around ! I was really anxious but it’s balance of trying to live life and cope with suppressed immune system. I looked up the other part of the booster and looks like none of that was live. I didn’t leave my home hardly for two years because of anxiety and am a lot better but when stuff like this happens it stirs it all up. Xx

When my granddaughters had their preschool booster I was advised not to be in close contact with them for a week. I am on biologic (tocilizumab). But as far as I know the pre school booster is not a live vaccine. The main ones I had to stay away from them for a while were MMR and rotavirus.

Ah I see. I was told not to have close contact with them after the MMR for about a week.

Well done for going to the party. My daughter has had all the vaccinations and boosters required for children and I am immunosuppressed with biologics and also methotrexate at the time. I managed okay. Like you say it's a balance between living life and not missing out to being careful. I think you did the right thing going. I hope you enjoyed yourself xx

Thank you. I was so anxious at the start but it was so lovely to see everyone that I did relax more as it went on. Xxx

From what I had read about when on biologics it's live vaccines that cause issues, if we have them.

The pre school booster seems to comprise of non live vaccines so they shouldn't be an issue.

Obviously take usual precautions of space from people, hand washing etc.

Thank you for highlighting this. I am teacher and my year group are about to get a series of vaccinations. I didn't think this could be a risk but will now ask rheumatology. Glad you went to the party, we all need some fun!
