Was just diagnosed with this nd have no symptoms and cardiologist says I dont require medication as my last echo from 20Janury 2023 revealed I had mild to moderate stenosis and echo from 2025 says I have moderate aortic stenosis and my blood pressure and heart rate are good and feel this will lead to severe stenosis as was told no surgury is even in the picture until it is severe and now worried this may shorted my quality of life and scared and want to connect with othere who were diagnosed with the same and see what they are doing to manage this disease.

Im opened to suggestions and comments in this area.

Thanks

Hi Anne,

It’s a bit scary when you hear there’s something going on with your heart isn’t it. Sounds like the cardiologist knows what he’s doing and they won’t add medication or do surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary. I have Pulmonary Stenosis and was diagnosed about 8 years ago. I have a yearly check up with the cardiologist and he is happy it is stable. If it gets worse, I would have to go on warfarin, which he wants to avoid if possible. I now have SVT as well so on a calcium channel blocker for that.

There might be a group on health unlocked that deals with aortic stenosis if you look. If you have any questions I would contact your gp who might be able to help. Best wishes

Hi Anne, I was diagnosed thro my yearly checks by rheumatologist and he heard a murmur so did egos and heart scans etc in the UK. I was on GTN and nicorandil but once all tested completed my heart cardiologist said he felt no need as mild and try to stay off medicines for heart until needed. Discussed diet etc and then said remain on aspirin and just try to push into the background but try to be more active etc with what all other medical issues allow. I was 58 on learning this and now feel calmer and I know anxiety makes heart worse so just try to seize the day.My ra fibro and copd cause more issues so stick with these. Cardio said seemed in 2years for an echo and off I went.

i have mild/moderate aortic stenosis 3/5 on the scale. Check up every two years and strong recommendation to increase my cardiac exercise. That’s it. Been about 8 or 9 years now.

hi Anne,

My rheumatologist found a murmur in 2016 I think and I then had all the relevant checks with cardiology. It was discovered that I had a congenital bicuspid aortic heart valve (born with 2 leaflets instead of 3) and the stenosis (which happens more quickly with a bicuspid as the leaflets have to work harder) was mild/moderate. I was seen annually for an echocardiogram until 2023 ,when what my cardiologist put down to a bad reaction to one of my ra medications , caused the stenosis to ramp up and my valve became critically stenotic . I had open heart surgery to replace the valve in June 2023. I am now feeling much healthier than I have been for years and taking hydroxychloroquine and Orencia biologic without a problem. So, even if you eventually need an operation, there is definitely light on the other side of the tunnel!
