Just wondering what people’s experiences have been with steroid injections for arthritis in the knees.Good results, not such good results?

Also has anyone had the Arthosamid injection instead of a steroid one.At the moment it’s only available in private clinics while trials are underway for NICE approval.

Any views or information would be welcome.Thankyou

from what I can see inflammatory and rheumatoid arthritis are not suitable for Arthosamid injections… sorry! But seek professional advice to be sure.

All the best

Sorry my mistake didn’t make it clear…It’s for osteoarthritis in the knee so either can be used.

I had fantastic results for RA with steroids in the knee but if ifs for OA you are looking for then that's probably not that helpful!

That’s great to hear you benefitted .Theconsultant has recommended a steroid injection and claims 73% of his patients with OA who’ve had it are satisfied.

I’ve researched Arthosamid injections and there seems to be similar good results but less side effects so hoping there may be people on here who’ve had one to see what their experiences have been.

I had a steroid injection in my knee a couple of years ago that gave me really good pain relief for about 6 weeks, which was enough to help me do physio and just have a break from pain.

Then I had another one a year later that did nothing at all.

As both exacerbated my Achilles tendinitis I don't think I'd risk having another unless the pain got significantly worse.

Thankyou,it seems quite common for for the relief to be varied in its length of time and degree but to have it worsen another existing condition it’s understandable why you wouldn’t want to take that risk again.

If only there was a one size fits all simple answer!

I had a steroid injection in my knee just before Christmas and it didn't make any difference at all, infact it made the pain even worse so I certainly won't be having any more

Thanks for replying and I’m so sorry to hear that not only it wasn’t successful for you it made things worse. We take such a gamble with these decisions ,always hoping for the best!

I've had a few steroid jabs in the knees. They have worked well but it's important to rest for the following day so it stays in your knee.

I’ve had a steroid injection twice into my knee. On both occasions it lasted for around a year, allowing me to strengthen my muscles.
