Steroid Injection in Knee - Mobility

I have been in a "significant flare" since September 2019, my consultant's words. My consultant was off for a year so I was seeing different doctors, they did give me a course of steroids and a couple of steroid injection put me on leflunomide. None of these worked, I already have been on all DMARDs with no success. I have been with no RA meds since December as they said I was under investigation. I had to wait for a CT scan and other tests before they would treat me. I could only get around with a Zimmer, Crutches and a wheelchair to get in and around the hospital. Last Monday I finally got a steroid injection in my big fat swollen knee, and it has definitely worked, I can stand up and I am not in the same pain and a little mobility has come back. I am still in a lot of pain in my legs and need lots of support to walk I am wondering if this is my muscles and if I should be trying to be more mobile or rest. I am now waiting to go on Adalimumab. I have mixed feelings about that, desperate to get some RA Meds and also nervous trying out another med. Any info help in really appreciated. thanks

I had similar experience except that steroids help me walk. The sooner you get the biologic, the better; Adalimumab works well for quite a lot of people though it did nothing for me.

I am now on Rituximab infusions and am hopeful that this will be effective.

Thanks for your reply charisma, I hope your Rituximab infusions work for you. It is a long hard road when these meds don't work, but ever hopeful one will work it is just finding it.

Hi charisma

Cannabis oil has worked for me. Arava and mtx made me violently ill, bad hair and weight loss and no improvement in symptoms or blood work. Steroid injections and fluid removed from my enormous knees lasted a day. High dose Presnesilone helped. 2 yrs later after 5 mths of Oil, inflammation, swelling, hot burning joints, fatigue etc has gone and im on only 1mg prednisone. Still hurts to walk far after my ankle replacement, the other needs doing too, plus both knees TKR, I can see some light at the end of a hideous 2 yrs. I truly hope you find relief soon and be sure to rest up and don't get run down. I call the oil my medicine now as it is healing my body. My rheumy was going to start me on biologics but i wanted to try the oil first and its working so far. 'Take care. 🌷
