Yes, it happened to me before Covid. I came off all my RA meds for a while, and had several different liver scans. Eventually everything returned to normal and I was able to start my RA meds again, and I’ve been ok since.
Don’t panic! That the doc wants to repeat them in 4 weeks means they are not unduly worried. When it’s happened to me they revert to normal on the repeat.
Yes it happened to me not so long ago. I was on MTX and LEF at the time and was finally starting to feel well for the first time in ages. Then I got a call saying my liver (LFT) results had gone way over 100 so I had to stop all medication. As you can imagine things went downhill from there with a massive flare. The consultant decided not to put me back on MTX, so now I’m trying Yuflyma and LEF. My liver results have now returned to normal..
I’ve had RA since my 20’s. I’ve had blood tests, (liver tests) come back higher than ‘norm’. This can happen especially when you’re having a flare/infection. Antibiotics & pain killers can affect your liver readings. My results came back very high. So much so. My rheumatology nurse rang me. I told her about the antis & painkillers. The next test was fine. Don’t panic so much.
As they’ve said just to repeat them in 4 weeks they are obviously not too worried. If they were more worried they would have told you to stop medication until your next blood test. I’ve had it happen a couple of times in the past. They phone and ask me to get my bloods done again in a few weeks time and every time they have returned to normal?
When you had Covid did you take antivirals or paracetamol? Both of those can temporarily affect your liver? It might just have been the virus itself having an affect. Try not to worry and take comfort from the fact you are being so closely monitored.
Your liver is one organ that can heal it's self at times. When I first got methotrexate it caused abnormal liver bloods they took me off it it healed they wanted to try again and did it was twice as bad. They told me I could never have it again and my results went back to normal. That's why they monitor your bloods with treatment watching for side effects
Really don't panic please. If there was something badly wrong the GP would be investigating further. My bloods always have one or more values slightly under or over
Yes ...regularly. it's the drugs can affect you that's why your monitored closely .I get taken off them and either different drugs or lower doses given. X
My blood tests are always abnormal, but I've realised that's just my normal. I did have an abnormal liver result a couple of years ago. But it was back to normal after the next test. So don't panic, it may well be fine at the next test.
I’ve had high liver readings in the past just had to stop my methotrexate for 2wks and repeat blood test which can back normal . This can happen with the meds we take but it’s good they keep an eye on you x
The only time it happened to me was with Sulphasalazine years ago. A few weeks off meds & liver was ok after a rest. It does happen for a lot of us due to our meds hence the regular monitoring. Our livers are good at repairing themselves quickly too so try not to worry.
Hi, it happens to me if I use paracetamol, I only have to take two and my LFTs go off the wall, they do go back to normal though. I tend to avoid paracetamol now. Try not to worry.
Canadian Liver Foundation says COVID 19 will elevate liver enzymes so I would guess your higher levels are likely due to that. It takes weeks for them to return to normal. Maybe you can call someone to help reassure you and explain exactly how high your levels are. I have also had a weird spike in my levels. Our precious livers work so hard. ❤️
I've just had a raised liver result for the first time too this week. I noticed they've changed the reference range at the lab.
I sent an email to rheumatology because I looked at the symptoms that cause higher levels (alanine transaminase) and noticed I had a couple, I've been taking more ibuprofen because of covid a couple of months ago.
Mine have been borderline since being diagnosed 8 years ago, they don’t seem to worried had liver scan that showed no damage. Regular blood tests is normal for me .
