Sorry can’t offer any advice as not been in that situation however I’m sure if you call doctors they will advise . It may be you won’t be able to take next weeks injection if on antibiotics but don’t suffer in the meantime. Hope you feel better soon.
Having had the worst case of tonsillitis ever over the Christmas period, along with a Sjögren’s flare, I had to stop my biologic injections. My neck was swollen, glands up etc and my GP wouldn’t see me. It all started mid-November with my eyes and everything got worse. In the end (after two visits to A&E on the advice of 111) I didn’t get any treatment until New Year’s Eve at a walk-in centre. They gave me antibiotics which I could hardly swallow which led to a case of gastritis followed by gastroenteritis. I ended up in bed for most of January apart from one trip to Rheumatology for a steroid injection. I hope you get help soon. I believe the pharmacy is your first port of call now. If they can’t help, try 111 and they may tell you what to do for the best. I wish you luck. Also contact your Rheumatology helpline to let them know. I hope you get well soon. xx
I recently had antibiotics for a tooth abscess and I had taken my methotrexate injection. I believe it may have lessened the effect of the antibiotics a little.
As the others have said contact your surgery, a pharmacist or rheumy team for advice. I hope you feel better soon.
I’m now on antibiotics (penicillin)for my throat!I spoke to my Rheumatology and they have said I have to miss my next dose of metratrexate.I’ve noticed though when ever I’m poorly it takes so long to go😞.
They will give you antibiotics if they feel you need them. You then don't take the injection until antibiotics are two days finished. The Mtx doesn't make antibiotics less effective so there is no issue there. Hopefully your feeling better soon.
from my experience if the doctor gave me antibiotics they will give me it and i would miss my methotrexate until my course is over plus 48 hours afterwards. That’s been my experience anyway. So I would go to the doctors if you feel u r not getting better
Hiya, I'm in the same position. I'm on 10mg MTX injections each Tuesday. I've had a dry, irritating cough since Boxing day that appeared to be going slowly but last week started up again. A visit to the docs on Friday and was given Amoxicllin and advised to miss my next injection. MTX can slow down the recovery whilst taking antibiotics.
