I have no idea what to call this and, I'm posting here purely because of my Pm - scl 100 antibody, but I have developed weird hard, scaly, rough patches of skin in the 'sit bones' area where my bum cheeks meet my hips. Both sides. I'm not overweight nor am I really thin, (low but normal bmi) I do not sit all the time, don't ride a bike but I swim and do daily exercises. These patches are not red or itchy but are beginning to 'split'. I've always had quite dry skin and typically moisturise after every shower and swimming and this works well and have never gad any issues.
The only info online refers to pressure ulcers, mainly for people who are bedbound and very ill or dying. One thing I read mentioned muscle loss in the buttocks.
Anyway, does anyone here have anything similar?
I'm on hydroxychloroquine abd methotrexate for connective tissue disease and Inflammatory Arthritis. I eat well!

Hi A, it's not inflamed or even red or sore, not itchy either. I discovered it while pulling my trousers down going for a wee. However it is becoming drier and starting to crack which, is my concern. I'm also completely mystified by why this has happened and where it will end. Pressure ulcers?
Yep. Every single day, I moisturise all over and have done for most of my adult life. Coconut oil usually and dermol1000 (?), sometimes cerave, e45, and now I'm going to try retinol- well only on the patches not my whole body! 🤣
I love the Aveeno lotions! I'm alternating between several differnt things at the moment including something my son has from the docs for his eczema (no active ingredients) .
A GP should be able to help by looking at it especially if it isn't responding to creaming your skin, you don't want to get an infection (skin is a barrier to infections and when it breaks down infections can occur). There are a lot of skin conditions, some can be related to immune issues. Although it may be localised the cause may be systemic. If you think it is pressure related, for instance, if you sit a lot or for long periods of time at a computer it could be worth trying a ring to relieve pressure on the area.
Jojoba oil is the closest to your own skin oils but psoriasis does not have to be inflamed and can be concurrent with arthritis worth mentioning to your nurse specialist
I think it's one of those things that the GP won't know or care about! I'm not that concerned but as I mentioned, it is starting to crack and split as well as being flaky. As I can't avoid sitting down I'm concerned about how to avoid it getting worse.
I have this and my GP kept saying ring worm, but it didn't look like ring worm nor did is respond to anti fungal cream. It turned out to be psoriasis. As Bethany says, it doesn't have to be inflamed to be psoriasis.
Hi C - I think very unlikely that is psoriasis, the patches are more like leather. There's no redness or pink, in fact it looks kind of yellowish, almost like a fading bruise which, is I suppose from the rubbing.
although I have Adult Onset Stills Disease it is rheumatoid in nature and have had strange skin growths on my torso appearing snd growing since diagnosis in 1979. GP baffled by them and went privately to have some sore ones removed about 14 years ago. Unfortunately they have grown back. I have lichen sclerosus which is treated with a steroid ointment. I occasionally use this very sparingly on these growths as GP can’t/won’t help.
