Ra/Fybro/Uti

I have been suffering with a uti since April after being in hospital for almost a week. I had diarrhea the last 2 days before coming back to care home. They always do tests on your return from hospital. The tests showed I had a uti/ecoli. I was given 3 antibiotics after which all 3 came back positive, the last said resistance to medication. The Dr ordered a cream to treat the pain/itchiness but burned my skin badly, then another cream was prescribed by the nurse practitioner which also burned my skin again. The Dr is now trying again an internal cream which I have had twice so far. I am still in horrendous pain every time I pee. This isn't the only pain I have, due to keep stopping the biological medication each time I had antibiotics, my biological med doesn't seem to be working to help with my RA and Fybro pain. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problems.I hope everyone is enjoying the summer best they can and that the meds are helping them. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Take care everyone.

Ask about Hiprex it’s an antibacterial not antibiotic. It might help that’s provided that your uti has been referred to a microbiologist who can sort out an antibiotic. And I’d ask about Gentamicin really heavy duty stuff but commonly used in hospital. I hope that helps.

Thank you for very prompt response. I will speak with my Dr tomorrow about what you suggest. It's taking too long to get over and I have missed so much of this summer. I need to get out abs about, not just for Dr appts.Thank you again, I will let you know how I get on.

I had a very persistent UTI which was reluctant to go. Eventually I was tested and found to have type 2 diabetes.

If you haven’t been tested recently it may be worth checking.

Good morning, I also have uti's often but never with e-coli and never this painful. I am on a biologic that you only need to stop taking for 2 days before starting antibiotics. They haven't worked this time. They have stopped prescribing antibiotics for uti's as they are now not working after repeat prescriptions. I don't know what else to try other than creams. I was burned twice because of steroids in the medication creams. I am now on internal Canestern cream but after 3 applications I am still in a lot of pain. I have asked for a referral to Gyno and see if they can help. I was seeing a urologist 2 years ago and tested my bladder, it was badly inflamed, it could be again, understandable due to the number of times I have had to stop my biological medication which I feel isn't working aswell as it use to. I also have an appt with a new Rheumy in September so I will check with him.

Sorry I have gone on so long but I am eager to get over this painful uti.

Thank you for your response and taking the time to listen.

Take care, hope all is well with yourself.

Good that you've asked for a gyno referral - I remember when I belonged to a menopause forum many ladies had bladder problems and found that hormone cream (specifically for the vagina) really helped with urine infections. I use it for vaginal dryness but I believe that these days it's often called urogenital dryness to indicate that it affects the bladder as well. I seem to remember something about something called D-mannose too which can also help to prevent infections.

fresh plain Greek yoghurt is very soothing around the genital area….please do ask GP/nurse advice first. Obviously also brilliant prebiotic, particularly after antibiotics….to help rebalance gut flora. Very best of luck, you have my full sympathy.

Hi, thank you for your response, I have Greek yogurt everyday to eat, it isn't always plain yogurt. I will check with the nurse to see what she thinks. I am willing to try anything to put an end to the pain, it's been going on for far too long.Take care, I hope you are keeping pain free.
