RA or UTI

Hi

I know it’s a bit of a strange thing to say but I’ve woken up with sciatica and hip pain going into my legs... not totally unusual for me but I also had sharp pains in my right side of pelvis at the front. I’m feeling a bit strange to be honest but taken painkillers and cons to work. My urine has shown blood in my urine for the last 6 months each tine it’s been tested but it wasn’t until I queried it this week that the hospital have referred me to my GO to investigate.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Really confused and it’s easy just to put everything down to RA and meds.

Thanks for listening

Sarah x

Hiya Sarah

I have lots of pains around front of groin but never had blood in my urine.

I think it’s good you’ve flagged this and their now referring you to a specialist . Cranberry juice is great for waterworks , I take cranberry capsules from Holland & Barrett.

Their are also some great exercises online for sciatic pain. Maybe these might help ? Remember to check with an health professional first. 💕💕

Thank you for your reply. I’ve suffered sciatica over the years along with RA in the knees so struggled to even walk at times so I will definitely have a look a the exercises. I’m hoping to get some answers as this pain feels different as it’s radiating from my pelvis to my hips and very lower back but I guess a UTI could do that. I have an appointment on Thursday morning so will see what they say then. Thanks again xx

It might not be anything serious, but I had a similar thing happen about 3 years ago which turned out to be a serious hip infection. No blood in my urine but I did suffer with recurring UTIs and had one a week or two before the hip infection. Could also be a kidney infection.

You need to see someone asap, go to A&E if necessary. Don't mean to sound alarmist, but you can never be too careful with things like this.

Thank you.. you’re not being alarmist and I know something isn’t right as it feels like my pelvic/pubic bone is throbbing. There’s definitely something going on to have blood in my urine for 6 months but this time it was ++. I’ll see what happens at my app on Thursday but I know being on biologics we have to be careful with infections. I really appreciate your advice xxxx

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

I’m glad you’re getting checked out. I’ve had many UTIs through the years and never had a doubt that it was a UTI. The frequency alone was a dead give away, and how painful it was to urinate, even when there was almost nothing there, left little doubt.

I hope you get it sorted out and are feeling better soon.

Thanks.. I’m wondering now whether it’s UTI pain or RA as I have no symptoms of infection apart from blood. I think I’m going into a flare as my hips are grinding in pain, never experienced in the hips before. I’ll see what doc says in morning. Thank you xxxx

So how did it turn out? Everything okay? I’ve been thinking of you.

Hi - thanks for your message. The doctor was useless. I’ve recently moved so a new GP. She basically said it was only traces of blood so nothing to worry about I was probably menstruating!!!!! I abruptly told her I wasn’t and the ‘trace’ has been there for 6 months. She then proceeded to tell me that I needed a blood test for ovarian cancer... wtf!!! She also advised me to take paracetamol for my RA pain. (I’m definitely going into a flare up) needless to say I need a second opinion. xxxx

Sounds like a second opinion is needed, most definitely. Why in the world would she suggest such a diagnosis instead of just ordering tests and discussing what they show?? I’ve never had a dr suggest cancer on a whim. I hope you are getting that blood test she wanted though, so you aren’t replaying her words over in your mind while you wait for the second doctor’s appointment. Ugh.
