Sulfasalazine
I can't remember the reasons but thinking back to the time I was on sulfasalazine and the pharmacist gave me the wrong type once, iirc the enteric-coated tablets are the only ones licensed for RA. The other ones are for crohn's disease and other inflammatory bowel disease. So they would have been prescribed off-label to begin with.
If your bowel problems go on you'll need to have it investigated as it might not be related to the medication at all. Or try some over-the-counter IBS treatments to see if they help.
The one benefit I had on sulfasalazine was it settled my IBS, so I had the opposite problem.
I had upset guts for a while when I first changed to Sulfasalazine but since then I've never felt nausea with it and I stopped the Lansoprazole I'd needed with Methotrexate as I wasn't getting such bad acid reflux.
The GP was happy about that, even though I'd been on it and had it on repeat for 10 years. And then I learned from the local pharmacist that Lansoprazole is designed to stop acid reflux happening but once you have those symptoms, Gaviscon is better as it puts a lid on it. No one ever told me that before.
Anyway, at one point, I started buying lactose free milk as I seemed to be a bit windy but I'd never thought it might be down to Sulfasalazine. It did help, and I still buy it, but do also drink ordinary semi skimmed. Worth a try?
