Hi. 5 weeks into Sulfasalazine. No side effects until I reached 4 tabs a day; then stomach issues. Nothing major but I’m new to all this so wondered if that was common.
Also; I see a few comments regarding taking ‘stomach calmers’ In the morning to reduce stomach issues. What are people taking ??
I’m pretty sure with sulfasalazine you can’t take any omprezole or any sort of digestion medication,I’m just going on what my rheumy told me when I was first prescribed it.
Many of us do, with our rheumy's agreement. Maybe it's not ideal but you have to weigh up the different issues. What should happen (which rarely does) is that the doctors should tell you the risks and benefits, and the different options and help you decide what would be best for you.
My first three months on sulpha were truly horrid! Such an excitable stomach I couldn't eat or drink outside the house. Anyway it wore off, and i stayed on it with no problems for 7+ years.
How many did you take per day ?
Increased over first couple of weeks up to 6 a day.
Im on a cocktail of meds one of which is sulph and lanzoprazole. Not to take them within 3 or 4 hrs of each othef. Need lanz to help me manage other meds.
Try taking it during your biggest meal of the day. My dr said, not before and not after—but during your meal. It worked for me.

I take Omeprazol and am on sulphasalaziine. I have issues if I try and go above 3 sulphasalaziine, was expected to get to 6 per day, but no way. X
I think that's the compromise....don't have them both at the same time.
