New style metoject

I just did my first new style metoject jab. Its simpler to do, more like an eppipen , which is a good thing. However it did 'hurt' more as it went in ,kinda sharper, like when they take bloods. Also ive just noticed that i now have a yellow patch under the skin at the site where i did it . Maybe a bruise ?

Just wondering how everyone else is getting on ?

When I usually do mine with the old pen it always hurt and bled and usually bruised. With the first one of the new pens I had none of that at all. No pain at all, no blood and definitely no bruising. I’ll have to see what happens when I do it tonight for the second time.

I've found the new style pens ok, personally. Mostly found them painless and as easy as the older style ones. I was a bit apprehensive at first about jabbing without pinching skin first to inject into but have got used to it. There was one occasion when I got it wrong and it hurt a bit, when I tried injecting into my stomach, but it's been fine before and since so I assume that was something I did. Hopefully it'll be ok for you with future injections.

I do it on my leg, i look for a bit of thigh with a bit more fat in the hope that it hurts less. 🤞😊

Hopefully my technique will improve . It probably dosent help that I look away when i do it lol . :)

I've only been on mtx for 5 weeks, on the metoject I always seem to bruise and wonder if I am pushing down too hard on the skin. Sometimes there is a little bit of the yellow medication left on the skin too. Am trying a 'flatter ' bit of the leg tonight.

Tha same happened with me on the old style I was pushing too hard when pushing the button i think and not getting it quite straight so some med came out . Hopefully the new style will help that :)

I am now using the new pens for methotrexate and Adalimumab. They have been easy to use in my thighs but lost a whole dose when I tried my stomach. Rheumy nurse just advised to inject in my legs only. I think as someone else mentioned it was because I couldn’t pinch the skin while injecting. I have less stinging after methotrexate injection with the new pen though, so that’s a bonus!

Yeah, they seem easier to use

I find injecting into stomach less painful. When I used to do it in thigh always hurt and got a bruise . Try stomach and see if this helps x

I dont think i could do that tbh. I can't even look when i do it in my thigh. But im glad it works for you . Best wishes

I've done 4 weeks on the new style Metoject. The first week was brilliant, I didn't feel a thing. Last week I did it in a bit of a hurry and thumped it down like an epipen - I still have the bruise to show for it! I like that it's simpler to use, and just need to work on my technique!

Me too. 🤞

I like the new pens as so much easier and have been pain free. I only inject metojet in my legs. My sarilumab injections hurt a lot in my legs, so I now do that only in the tummy and Metojet in the legs. This system works well.

I’ve posted on this a couple of times and totally agree with you. The needle used must be a different type than the old one because they really sting! I’m off meds at the moment due to high liver enzymes but I’d take the sting right now if I could get back on some meds to control this disease.

Yes agree always can feel the needle piercing the skin, very stingy post injection, often light bruising too. Also cos it's slimmer and my hands are affected by OA I find it harder to hold.

For me jury still out.

hi

May I ask - how did you get prescribed the pen? Was it your rheumatologist?

I m having lots of ongoing on my tablet prescriptions

My rheumy changed me to the injections early on after being diagnosed as the tablets gave me awful side effects. I still get side effects now but less so on injections. The change to the new style injections just happened . Metoject just sent the new style on my repeat prescription. All the best :)
