Stopped taking MTX

Hi.

Had a hell of a Christmas and took my last dose 6 tabs on a Monday The effects of MTX outweighed the cause and having a bad chest infection needed antibiotics. Doctor suggested stop MTX whilst taking them

I have a Rheumy appointment next week to discuss my future and what needs to be taken.

Never have I felt so low in my life, My quality of life in the past three months cannot be replaced.

Will post on here my result.

I have kept a diary since I started MTX and it reads like a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde chapter.

Hope your appointment goes well and that you feel better soon - it's so awful when you feel like that. Good luck.

hi there don’t dispare I was the same on mtx, but work through it with your Rheumy, there are other options that don’t make you feel so unwell, I just couldn’t cope with it and the way it made me feel. But the rheum should help you with other options, mine totally understood and helped me through and feel much better.

Hi I felt shocking on MTX finally came off it 😊 told Rheumatoid nurse it made me feel so ill. There are other choices don’t struggle on it. Hope you get sorted x

I too couldn't cope with MTX, I tried for about 2 years. Eventually I stopped taking it and discovered I didn't have IBS. I am sorry that I cannot take mtx as it is a gold standard for RA, some people get used to it.I hope you get sorted, sometimes it seems a long wait.

Sorry that you have felt unwell on MTX. How long have you been taking it? It has been a gamechanger for me and I have been on it for about 15 years, but I understand that it does not suit everyone.

Perhaps your Rheumy will suggest something else when you see him next week, but try not to be too long without anything as the damage that can cause can be very long lasting, as I found when I was off MTX for seven weeks following an iffy blood test.

I also can’t tolerate MTX (or hydroxychloroquine). Biologics work better for me. There are alternatives! Try not to despair and keep on record-keeping of your symptoms. RA cases are as individual as fingerprints and it can take time to find the right treatment.

Update

Went to see Rheumy yesterday. Discussed eflunimide after bad reaction to Sulphasarazin and Defo MTX.

We have decided ~I will continue with Neproxen and see how I control it.

Went on trainer for first time and was able to reach my previous cadence levels before being floored by MTX.

Yes I have hand and foot and other niggles but after what happened on MTX we decided it was definitely not for me.

I wish this was a general thing but I know we are all individual. I may need further help in the future (71) but I would rather have my quality of life back.

All the best
