After an upbeat post yesterday it's back down with a crash today. I developed a sore throat in the evening and felt really rough overnight. Tested positive this morning! If it wasn't bad enough, I have been taking my sick mum in a wheelchair to see my dad who is rehabilitating after amazingly pulling through sepsis. I also have my mother-in;-law due to visit at the weekend (she has had just about every visit cancelled in the last few years due to one thing or another). Could it get any worse?
I'm on MTX and Sulphasalazine. Should I contact the nurse? Not sure whether I'm supposed to request antivirals or stop treatment.

Bad luck! Going into hospital to see your dad is a likely cause.
Suggest you look at the Immunosuppression section on this link. It will also depend on any other factors (age, co-morbidities) and how well controlled your disease is so probably best to contact your nurse.
Assuming your test was a free one report result online or call 119. Should trigger antivirals of you are eligible. If not ring your GP. You need to get any antivirals quickly.
I called 119 and they said NHS would be in touch but of course they didn’t and I was too ill to chase it up. However, after managing to keep paracetamol down (being sick) I was able to sleep and already feel like I’ve turned a corner…eating ice cream now! Hopefully this recovery continues
I've also tested positive today for 2nd time in 6 months. Reported to 119 who said I was eligible for antivirals and local NHS would arrange delivery. My rheumatology service then called me to say I'm not eligible and wouldn't prescribe them, I called 119 back and they said I am.
thank you. This is my first infection with covid. Felt rotten all day but seem to have already turned a corner. Not sure whether once you start to recover that’s it or if it can be a rollercoaster
Hi, well I've just had Covid and it was terrible, hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm on a biologic, which makes me immuno-suppressed but I was given anti-virals which worked very well. So you should get the anti-virals. Covid lasted two weeks for me, hopefully it won't be that long for you. Get treated with anti-virals; you need the help with everything else going on around you. Covid is nasty. Good luck.
Sorry to hear, after you doing better. Eligibility to antivirals was tightened in March with many on biologics no longer qualifying. Methotrexate is only counted if taken for interstitial lung disease and not rheumatology issues. Sulphasalazine isn’t listed at all. I would still try though, as you may have comorbidities that can be taken into consideration. I would hold off on the MTX to give your body more chance at fighting off the covid. Hope it doesn’t worsen. And you recover soon. From what I recall you’ve not been on MTX long, which means you will have had a good response from previous covid vaccines, so should have a good level of antibodies on board. Take care 🤗
yes, I was fortunate to have access to a test kit to check antibody response to the vaccine and mine was very strong. I’ve been on MTX for just 9 months so only one vaccine while on it and that was soon after. I guess I don’t need to worry about getting the new booster now. I was just about to organise that!
Goid that you had a good response. You can still get the booster 1 month after having covid. The boosters are available till 30th June, so you may just make it. Hope you don’t feel too rough. 🤗
fortunately I have been taking v high dose vitamin D with K12 - just as well with a lack of sunshine round here at the moment. I also have some CBD which I took for a while to help with joint pain (didn’t help me). My family take these immunity boosting vitamin complexes but I’m a little wary of boosting my immune system in case it ups the autoimmune disease.
The cbd oil actively attacks the covid virus, clearing it from your lungs as well as easing symptoms. It doesn't effect your immune system. It's always more complicated when your taking pharmaceuticals and worth doing research or talking to a chemist or doctor if in dought.
One has to be careful where you buy the cbd oil as well. If you have a reliable trustworthy source it shouldn't effect any treatment you are other than reducing side effects.
Vitamin D has been shown to actively reduce the RA along with many other ills.
When I had covid back 2020 I doubled my daily dose but in fact I should have taken 10 times as much. I'm on 800ui a day, now I'm taking extra, and feel much better for it.
I only had covid for 8 days then I felt better than I had for years, I could breath again it was wonderful.
it seems just like proper flu to me. Hopefully it will be over soon but I don’t think it’s going to be complicated.. just miserable while it’s happening.
Yes phone NHS111and get onto the virtual ward and anti-virals ASAP. The virtual ward is excellent. You can't afford to take any risks in your situation with your parents. Good luck.
