I would recommend an assessment (and possible treatment depending on what they find) by a vestibular physiotherapist. You may have BPPV. I have suffered for years with it on and off. Docs only give medication for symptoms. Physios ‘cure’ it; though it can come back.
You are right…the Epley manoeuvre is excellent…but people must not just read about it & try it….the exercises must be overseen by someone fully trained in diagnosing the correct side or it can make matters worse.
Have you been on steroids. These are 2 of many symptoms I got, when I developed on ed adrenal insufficiency due to steroids. You need to be seen and assessed. There is so many potential causes
You should see your GP to see if you have some kind of vertigo…it’s an annoying condition, not usually serious & there is treatment that works well……but you do need to take clinical advice.
Don’t worry…it’s very common….& once you have some treatment I found it got far less troublesome.
There are different types of vertigo…..the dizziness caused by an ear infection is usually transitory…if you have it all the time the cause could be something that will react favourably to treatment that can be prescribed by your GP.
Contact your GP. If that’s been going on for weeks you need to know what it is and why and get relief from it. Could be any number of causes but no point in continually trying to second guess them. Do hope you can at least get a telephone conversation with your doctor as you must be feeling really miserable. All the very best to you.
I went thro this and had to assessed by my GP he put me on a short course of betahistine when I came off after 6 weeks I was still a tad dizzy so now take one a day. He now checks on this every 3 months to see if worse or better and dosage. Not sure reason for it at the moment whether RA or other AI conditions or heart and lungs.
I have had a telephone consult with GP this lunchtime. She has asked me to go to surgery tomorrow. I told her I’ve been putting it off for ages, mostly because the GPs are so busy and difficult to get an appointment with…
I know it’s difficult to pin down.
My mum had Giant Cell Arteritis and it began with migraine like headaches and a feeling of unbalance/dizziness.
I need to double check my blood pressure but I think it’s ok, usually low side of normal rather than high.
The only thing I know about dizziness can be caused by dehydration or thyroid problems both of which I have experience of. I hope you get some answers soon.
note my diagnosis is Adult Onset Stills Disease which for me manifests as RD and I’m not taking and RA meds currently.
I do have cluster migraines and notice that dizziness is worse in the days after an episode.
Recently told I have BPPV and given the exercises mentioned by others herd to do but RA pain in neck and shoulders and hips have prevented me doing them. I was prescribed Prochlorperazine which works, I take it infrequently.
This year I’ve been unwell with new symptoms including dizziness and tests showed high cholesterol among other things. Research and some of my other symptoms combined led me to speak to GP about thyroid issues.
Thyroid stuff is really complicated and GPs don’t want to know but I concluded that my low BP and high cholesterol stem from thyroid issues and it’s a question of watch and wait I’m afraid.
Hi, hope you see this before your GP appointment. Firstly it is really helpful if you can work out whether you are "dizzy" or "lightheaded". My GP was convinced my dizziness was caused by my anemia. In fact, the anemia just caused tiredness which exacerbated the dizziness caused by visually induced vertigo. So, does the world spin, or do you feel like you are going to faint. Do you feel worse when you stand up? What happens when you close your eyes? Is the dizziness all the time, or is it triggered by movement (either your own or moving objects or pictures). The more specific you can be, the better the chance your GP can work out what is going on. Having said that, I was very specific with mine and he basically told me I wasn't dizzy anymore because I was no longer anaemic. I didn't get sorted until I saw a neurologist about other issues. He referred me to a specialist physiotherapist. Good luck, and hope you get help quickly.
This is not likely to be your issue, but it is a thought-Lyme Disease may cause dizziness. I have it and have suffered this issue on and off for years. I think it may be related to either damage to the ears or to the brain.
An update - vestibular migraine is the most likely issue. A pretty full assessment was carried out, more a feeling of imbalance rather than room spinning and its constant. The nausea is also migraine related.
The GP is a fellow sufferer…
I have been given anti sickness meds along with permission to take more triptan. I need to go back in Jan if it doesn’t resolve as I refused preventative meds.
