Depends on what the doctor has ordered but 30/40 mins should do it.

I would say around 20 mins. I regularly have whole spine plus pelvis, and that’s 45 mins

I can imagine. I have dental crowns and worry about those being magnetic.

Hi, well I had it done yesterday afternoon. Brand new machine with a much wider, brighter bore but they havnt managed to make it any quieter😁. Worrying about crowns and they were fine but a deep filling I have at the back really heated up which technician says can happen with the old metal fillings. Thankyou for the replies it really helped my anxiety x

I've had cervical spine, lumbar spine and ankle MRIs, some were done inside the hospital and some on a lorry. Some say the lorry MRI scanners are quicker, but I don't know. I agree, the noise and procedure is torture, but I tell myself for every extra minute I lie still and let them get on with it, the sooner I'll be let out! I wish the scanner operators would communicate over the speakers, but unfortunately that has only happened once, the others say nothing.

I agree, I had a brain MRI years ago where they clip a cage over your head which frightened me and then when the banging started I thought it had a fault. I asked the operator could they talk once in a while and let me know how long was left. Think they forgot, hope they are much better and quicker now. Hopefully you will need no more.

I had a two scans done a couple of years ago. The lumbar spine scan was supposed to only take half an hour but the chap said they had to do it again because I moved. I hadn’t actually moved but for lack of anything better to do I decided I would do some nice relaxing deep breathing exercises! Bad move because it affected the scan.

Second scan was a couple of weeks later and that was a pelvic MSK scan and I was told that one would take an hour, same clinic, same operators doing it. I didn’t think I could lie there for that long and said I was worried that if they had to do it again like they had done with the first one then I definitely couldn’t do it. On ehe day the operator said the scan was very unlikely to be affected by my breathing because it was lower down my body and sure enough that scan was fine.

Both times I had good ear defenders on and was all tucked up with nice soft pillows so I was very comfortable and I just relaxed and pretended I was at a very loud rock concert, I concentrated on the repetitive rhythm and could actually feel myself dozing off and was very surprised when my man spoke to me and said I was finished. Fortunately everything went smoothly and nothing had to be repeated.

oh lovely but bad luck with the first one. Well I just got back and the machine was a brand new one with a larger bore, much better but blimey the sounds were even louder than I remembered I think my head is still pulsating now, lol.
