Crumbling thoracic spine

So I found out what the mystery X-ray is for. It’s because although the MRI didn’t show up any inflammation in my lower spine it’s showing significant degeneration in my thoracic though it’s not clear if it’s inflammatory.

I saw the occupational health consultant on Monday. He emailed my consultant and said I’m sat with this lady now and the swelling in her thumb joint is blindingly obvious and I understand the Rheumatoid physio has said her elbows are swollen something I agree with as her occupation Health consultant. Why do you continue to deny this and withhold treatment.

I can’t remember helz but has anyone tested you for the gene for Ankylosing Spondy (can’t spell it well)? They thought I had AS as I have inflammation in my sacroiliac joint and apparently this isn’t common with RA. I was negative for the gene and I’ve still got RA diagnosis.

Hi crash doll. Yes they did and I test positive for it hence the MRI. They can't see any inflammation but my symptoms fit much better I would say with AS. The inflammation seems to go up and down and the pain in my elbows is the tendons they think

Sorry to hear this but glad someone is on your side asking why things aren't being done re meds. I have so gmail just the same as your OH therapist. What are thier next plans? I know nothing about AS so leave that to the experts here who do. Good luck.

Have to say my occupational health consultant has been brilliant. He's been in my side throughout with the hospital and my bosses.

Sophie raises a good point. My spine is fused at top and bottom and one of the first areas of visible deformity was my thumbs! I have a diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis and RA- may be worth mentioning?

I wish you the best going forward

Hi that should really interesting as initially what drove me to the doctors was problems in my thumbs. Last week my left one was very swollen has gone down now but the pain in both thumbs is quite severe. A scan showed the same as everywhere else fluid in the joints but no inflammation so it was dismissed

Hi. Good somethings being sorted. Years ago I had the diagnisis of Schumanns disease in my spine that resulted in some imploded spinal disks. They wanted to cage/fuse two areas but i said no and have had physio on and off over the years. I saw an othopod last week about elbow replacement who said I made correct choice not to have spine fused as other areas now degenerating but did not say and i didnt think to ask that there was connection between Schumanns and RD. Now due to RD meds spine pain no where near as bad. Physio really helps strengthening the muscles around disks but wont work regarding the damaged RD elbow.

Really hope you continue to get help & support.
